Your Opportunity: We are seeking a skilled hospital Unit Clerk who can excel in a fast‑paced acute care environment and support both the clinical team and a diverse, often complex patient population. Completion of a recognized hospital Unit Clerk program. Minimum 1 year of acute care experience within the last 3 years. Proven ability to manage the workflow of a high‑volume unit, coordinating admissions, discharges, tests, and procedures efficiently. Patient Interaction Expectations: This role requires a high level of comfort and confidence when working with confused, agitated, or behaviorally challenging patients. Candidates must be able to: Calmly manage, redirect, and de‑escalate patients who may be disoriented, distressed, or displaying aggressive behaviors. Work effectively with individuals experiencing dementia, brain injuries, or cognitive impairments, maintaining professionalism and safety. Set a steady, respectful tone on the unit through consistent, thoughtful communication. Core Skills: Strong ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands, including call bells, phone calls, and urgent patient needs. Reliable attention to detail and accuracy under pressure. Demonstrated patient‑ and family‑centered approach. Flexibility, self‑motivation, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication. Description: As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program. Additional Required Qualifications: Completion of recognized Hospital Unit Clerk course or equivalent education/skills. Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining a calm and pleasant attitude. Demonstrated practice that is patient/ family centered. Demonstrated flexibility, self-motivation, organizational skills and excellent communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: 1 years recent Unit Clerk experience in acute care setting desirable.
