AltaSteel is seeking a self-motivated individual to become an essential part of the Steelmaking Maintenance team. Reporting to the Manager, Steelmaking Maintenance, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering services to the Steel Making department. The significant focus of this role will be problem solving and making engineering decisions related to plant and equipment. Responsibilities: Work in a safe and responsible manner Ensure understanding and compliance to the critical safety, environmental and quality working systems Initiate and oversee projects that have been identified as required by operations Supervise and direct employees and contractors as required, to ensure safety and quality requirements are met Assist with plant operations and maintenance troubleshooting Provide input and recommendations of safe systems of work and manage identified hazards throughout the area Conduct risk assessments when appropriate and implement actions to properly manage identified risks before proceeding with work Communicates technical learning’s and process changes with teams Qualifications and Experience: Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an APEGA recognized institution Eng Designation registered with APEGA 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience Experience working in a heavy industrial environment Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team Ability to manage a number of projects and priorities to a timeline and budget, while realizing project benefits Eager to learn and take on new challenges Strong interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated responsible attitude towards safety Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills Continually strive to meet our customer goals Job Details: Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm Full-time, permanent opportunity Fast paced environment.
