Our client, a well-established Edmonton-based private investment company, is seeking an experienced Accounting & Tax Manager to join their finance team on an initial contract basis. This is a hands-on senior accounting role supporting a diversified portfolio of operating businesses and investments across industries including agriculture, food processing, hospitality, real estate and oilfield services. About the Opportunity Reporting to the Manager of Financial Reporting, you will play a key role in overseeing month-end and quarter-end accounting, financial reporting, tax-related items and several ongoing finance projects. The initial contract is expected to run approximately 4–6 months, with the potential for extension or permanent conversion for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities: Reviewing month-end working paper files and monthly financial statements Reviewing quarter-end files and ensuring trial balances are accurate Reviewing CaseWare budget files and confirming alignment with approved budgets Reviewing monthly GST filings and bank reconciliations Providing oversight and support across accounts payable processes Assisting with cheque runs, payment processes and vendor transitions to electronic payments Supporting corporate tax instalments Assisting with bank account openings and banking system migration initiatives Supporting accounting system integration related to EFT and cheque processing Assisting with SharePoint file migration Supporting corporate reorganizations, including Section 85 rollovers Working closely with senior finance leadership and business owners across a range of operating entities Qualifications We are looking for a senior accounting professional who can step into a complex environment quickly and operate comfortably at both the review and hands-on level. You will ideally bring: Significant progressive accounting experience, ideally within a senior accounting, controllership or financial reporting capacity Previous public practice experience, or strong industry experience overseeing month-end/year-end reporting, budgeting and financial processes Strong working knowledge of CaseWare Experience reviewing financial statements, working papers and reconciliations Experience overseeing accounts payable and broader finance processes Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently Confidence working directly with business owners and senior leadership Nice to Have CPA designation Corporate tax experience Experience with Section 85 rollovers Oil & gas production accounting experience Experience within a multi-entity, investment, family office or diversified operating environment Compensation & Work Model Competitive compensation Hybrid work model, approximately 60% in office / 40% remote Downtown Edmonton location Initial contract expected to run approximately 4–6 months Potential for extension or permanent conversion If you are an experienced accounting professional looking for a senior-level contract opportunity with exposure to a diverse portfolio of businesses, we would be happy to speak with you.
