Job summary
We are partnering with a privately owned, growing organization to recruit a hands-on Controller who thrives in a dynamic, multi-entity environment. This is a key leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being close to the numbers while also providing oversight across core administrative functions. About the Role Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will take ownership of the full accounting cycle, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting while supporting operational decision-making. This role requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a business that blends project-based work, service delivery, and light assembly. Key Responsibilities Prepare and oversee full-cycle financial statements across multiple entities Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Provide oversight of: Payroll (including acting as backup when required) Accounts Payable Reception / administrative support functions Support job costing processes, including analysis and reporting on project performance Apply appropriate revenue recognition methodologies, particularly in a construction/project environment (fixed price and cost-plus contracts) Monitor and report on inventory and related controls Provide insight into equipment utilization and efficiency within a service-oriented business Strengthen internal controls and contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and systems Partner with operations to support both maintenance and greenfield projects Qualifications & Experience Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) Proven experience in a hands-on Controller or senior accounting role Background in construction, project-based, or similar industries, with strong understanding of revenue recognition Demonstrated experience with: Job costing Multi-entity structures Inventory accounting Exposure to service-based operations, including equipment utilization metrics Strong systems experience, including mid-market (Tier 2) ERP systems Comfortable operating in an environment that requires both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution What Sets You Apart Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership Practical, solutions-focused mindset Ability to balance multiple priorities Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary and vacation Comprehensive benefits package RRSP matching program Free parking At Aplin — together with our brands CompuStaff, Impact Recruitment, and Vantix Systems — we connect great people with great organizations across North America.
