Role description: The Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor will support the HSW Manager in delivering HSW second-line assurance for your business area. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to industry, sector, and service lines within your business area to protect our people and provide technical advice and support to ensure compliance with HSW regulations and standards and foster a safe working environment. Location: Markham, Ontario-based and requires periodic travel. Role accountabilities: * Ensure the Arcadis HSW Management System are delivered consistently across Canada Operations and more specifically ensure that HSW requirements and standards are identified and implemented on Arcadis projects and programs. * Assist in hazard identification, risk assessments, and inspections to promote safe working practices. * Steward HSW performance including preparation of monthly HSW performance reports for delivery to Arcadis Global HSW. * Engage Canada Leadership Teams and staff to meet HSW goals and objectives and steward Health, Safety and Wellbeing. Support with incident investigations and reporting. * Deliver HSW training and awareness sessions. * Maintain accurate HSW records, documentation and reporting requirements. * Promote safe work practices among employees across the business. * Coordinate HSW requirements within offices, including PPE, first aid, emergency preparedness and workplace safety arrangements in collaboration with the Workplace team. * Work collaboratively with the central HSW Global Shared Service Centre (GSSC) team to coordinate in country data, analytics and management information. * Work closely with operational staff and HSW team members to support HSW objectives. * Support Canada management in implementing HSW policies, standards and procedures. * Collaborate with Security and Risk functions as required. * Engage with stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of HSW objectives and establish protocols for working together. * Ensures that client HSW requirements are communicated to, and understood by Arcadis staff and client project teams. * Maintain third party compliance review databases including but not limited to ISNetWorld, Avetta, and Cognibox in association with other Canada HSW Advisors. Qualifications & Experience: * 2-4 years experience in health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) management and risk management or a related discipline, with a strong interest in supporting safe and compliant working environments. * Demonstrated understanding of HSW principles and practices, with the ability to support the implementation of HSW programs, initiatives and compliance activities across the business. * Basic knowledge of HSW legislation, standards and regulatory requirements across Canada, with the ability to apply these requirements under guidance and contribute to maintaining compliance. * Experience supporting HSW activities such as inspections, risk assessments, incident reporting, training coordination or performance monitoring within operational environments. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships and engage effectively with employees, managers and stakeholders at different levels of the organization. * Good organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records and deliver work to agreed timelines. * Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation, monitor compliance requirements and support effective reporting processes. * Developing analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, gather information and contribute to practical solutions that improve HSW outcomes. * Experience using digital tools, reporting systems or HSW management platforms to support data collection, reporting and performance monitoring activities. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and delivering high quality outcomes. * Willingness to learn and develop professional expertise in HSW, continuously building technical knowledge and understanding of industry best practices. * Degree level qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Risk Management or another relevant discipline, or equivalent practical experience. * Relevant HSW certification preferred, or a willingness to obtain professional qualifications and certifications as part of ongoing professional development. * Experienced work on construction projects including working around heavy operating equipment. * Experience in assessing and resolving ergonomic health and safety concerns. * Knowledge of and experience working with hazardous chemicals and materials. * Certification as a Joint Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee Member in one or more Canadian jurisdictions, especially Ontario, is preferred. * Strong communication and presentation skills that bring diverse audiences together on complex issues. This includes fluent English communication along with good understanding of the French language. * A valid Canadian Driver’s License required. * The position will require regular travel within Canada and occasional travel internationally. * Certification as a Certificate of Recognition (COR) auditor in one (1) or more Provinces and Territories a plus Why Arcadis?
