#LD-NI JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION Laboratory Assistant COMPANY AND LOCATION Stratum Analytical, Oshawa, ON EMPLOYMENT TYPE Permanent, Full Time HOURS WORKED 37.5 hours/week DIRECT REPORTS No ________________________________________________________________________________ POSITION SUMMARY: The Laboratory Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by assisting with laboratory maintenance, sample preparation, routine testing, environmental monitoring, equipment maintenance, and record keeping. Working under established SOPs, the role helps ensure accurate documentation, adequate laboratory supplies, and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards while providing technical and administrative support to laboratory staff. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Laboratory Support Cleaning, sterilize and maintaining the laboratory and its equipment Waste disposal support Preparing reagents, solutions, and other laboratory material Receiving, gathering and prepping client samples Preparing shipments to subcontractors Restocking of supplies Data entry Inventory management ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Analytical Testing Assist laboratory staff in conducting analytical testing, including recording observations and data accurately Sample Preparation and Management As proficiency and training is completed, begin independently conducting more complex testing (Method Suitability, Sterility Testing, Microbial Identification) Environmental Monitoring Record, report and investigate unexpected test results Ensure all equipment and systems are operating within established calibration guidelines; notify manager promptly of calibration failures and repair needs Ensures results are appropriately documented in standardized format and recorded in a timely manner Document Management Preparing documentation (workorders, worksheets, Lab Reports) Follows protocols regarding document lifecycle: storage, handing, retention, transmission and destruction Scans, file and creates storage systems for documentation that improve efficiency Keep documents organized and stored according to appropriate naming conventions Compliance Management Complies with company policies and all applicable SOPs; complies with ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ICH guidelines, Health Canada requirements and Quality Control Guidelines Maintains familiarity on use of all applicable equipment, systems, and procedures (SOPs) Assists in back up support of all laboratory workstations as required Maintains GDP according to ALCOA principals Maintains clean, orderly, and safe laboratory work area and follows all laboratory health and safety policies Participates in team discussions and assists in achieving team goals QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 beneficial Experience in GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) is preferred Experience in housekeeping, sanitation, and environmental maintenance Strong attention to detail and accuracy Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills Experience in a microbiology and/or chemistry laboratories a plus Excellent decision making and interpersonal skills Physical dexterity to perform testing accurately and precisely Ability to read, understand and comply with Company policies and SOPs, including safety rules and regulations Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. SPECIFIC WORKING CONDITIONS OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Should be able to carry laboratory equipment, reagents and samples Fine motor skills and manual dexterity for tasks such as pipetting, handling small samples, and operating laboratory equipment Should be comfortable wearing appropriate PPE, such as lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators when necessary Proper handling of chemicals and adherence to safety protocols Working with biohazardous materials and hazardous chemicals Working in iso 5 isolator and Biological Safety Cabinet ------------- DISCLAIMER: The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
