Job Title: Senior Internal Auditor Location: Markham, Ontario Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Internal Auditor to join our Internal Audit team. This role is responsible for leading risk-based internal audits, evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, assessing regulatory compliance, and providing recommendations to strengthen the Bank's governance and risk management framework. The successful candidate will independently lead audit engagements, collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, support audit methodology enhancements, and mentor junior auditors while ensuring compliance with professional auditing standards and regulatory expectations. What You Will Do Lead risk-based internal audit engagements from planning through reporting and follow-up. Develop annual audit plans, conduct risk assessments, and determine audit scope and testing strategies. Perform detailed audits by evaluating business processes, internal controls, policies, and regulatory compliance. Collect and analyze audit evidence through interviews, observations, data analysis, sampling, and substantive testing. Prepare audit working papers, draft audit findings, and present recommendations to management. Monitor remediation activities and validate corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of audit findings. Identify opportunities to enhance audit methodologies, testing techniques, and risk assessment practices. Provide recommendations to strengthen internal controls, operational efficiency, and governance processes. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory authorities during examinations and audits. Coach and mentor junior auditors by providing guidance, technical support, and knowledge sharing. Participate in departmental initiatives and other projects as assigned. What You Bring to the Table Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA, CIA, or other relevant professional audit certifications are preferred. Minimum 5 years of internal audit, external audit, risk management, or banking experience, preferably within the financial services industry. Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing, internal controls, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. Experience planning and leading end-to-end audit engagements. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify control weaknesses and recommend practical solutions. Experience performing data analysis using Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools. Excellent report writing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple audit assignments and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
