Posting Date: October 6, 2026 Closing Date: October 15, 2026 @ 4:00pm SummaryThis is skilled trades work involved in the provision of engineering services for the school district. Reporting to the Engineering Foreman, the Trades-Engineer is fully qualified and certified in a trade such as Electrical work (Industrial Electrical), Plumbing, Steam fitting/Pipe fitting and/or Sheet Metal work. The Trades-Engineer primarily performs maintenance, installations and repair work in their trade specialty. At other times the Trades-Engineer is required to assist in other engineering trades areas such assignments reflecting the individual’s expertise, knowledge, and government regulations. Work may be performed individually or as part of a team. Initially, employees in this position receive detailed instructions on assignments but as the Trades-Engineer becomes more familiar with district standards and procedures, they exercise some independence of judgment in their work, and supervision is limited. The Engineering Foreman assigns work. The Trades-Engineer keeps track of time and materials used on work orders. Communicate difficult or unusual problems to the Engineering Foreman or Manager of Facilities Services for recommendations and resolutions. Duties include, but are not limited to: · Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of engineering systems and equipment in buildings and grounds (see below for details) · Facilitates a preventative maintenance program, correcting unsatisfactory conditions or reporting them to the Engineering Foreman for further action · Assists other trades personnel and performs routine maintenance activities · Upon Request, estimates materials and time and provides input to the Engineering Foreman · Records materials and time records on work orders · Uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, and meters · Assists with general Facilities Department tasks as required, e.g. snow removal, renovations, project work · Responds to occasional Call-Outs for alarms and emergencies · Source materials for work assignments; this may include picking up supplies and contacting suppliers · Performs other related duties as may reasonable be expected of a person in this position Electrical: · Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs systems such as: intruder and fire alarms, lighting, Audio systems, heating and ventilation, DDC systems, electrical power and distribution systems, secondary service work (Pole installs), service drops, networking for computer systems (patch panels), infrared scan switch gears, and camera installations · Performs boiler maintenance (certificate required) · Adapts/designs some control circuitry · Repairs equipment e.g. pumps, electric motors, switches, electrical tolls, machinery and equipment · Assists other engineering trades as required Heating/Gas Fitting: · Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs heating appliances such as forced air furnaces, hot water and pressure boilers, and roof top heating / air conditioning units · Sets up heating appliances for maximum efficiency and safety · Changes filters, belts, replaces electric motors, oils pumps and drains boiler extension tanks · Assists other engineering trades as required Sheet Metal/Plumbing: · Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs oil and gas heating equipment, plumbing fixtures and pipes, air handling units, and related electrical equipment and wiring · Fabricated and installs sheet metal materials e.g. ducts, flashings · Installs mechanical equipment · Unclogs sewer pumps and pipes · Assists other engineering trades as required Refrigeration/Appliance Technician/Building Engineer · Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment · Repairs and maintains all Curriculum Support Equipment e.g. shop tools and equipment, Sewing and Foods room equipment and appliances, Cafeteria appliances and Custodial equipment · Repairs and maintains building heating systems including changing filters, belts, chemicals and servicing system components · Assists other engineering trades as required Required Qualifications: · Secondary school graduation supplemented by Trade Qualification Certificate recognized in British Columbia in the relevant trade and/or related government license e.g. Steam Fitting/Pipefitting, Electrical Work/Industrial Electrical, Plumbing, Sheet Metal Work, Gas Fitting, Electrical Contractor Required Experience: · A thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the trade · Experience performing work relevant to school district engineering operations · Ability to read and work from diagrams and plans · A basic knowledge and experience in related engineering trades · Good mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn and apply practices of other Engineering personnel · Ability to work co-operatively with others including both department and other school district staff · Sufficient physical strength and health to work outdoors, to lift materials, and work in confined spaces · A valid B.C. driver’s license; a drivers abstract to be completed annually · Considerable working knowledge of healthy and safe work practices in accordance with WorkSafe BC Regulations for Workers and ability to work in a safe manner Thank you for your interest.
