Willing to take Sonderly training (paid for by the Board) An understanding of IEP development and effective accommodations to support complex student needs Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively. EXISTING VACANCY: Yes Salary The posted salary range reflects the base rate up to A2 Max; actual compensation may be higher in accordance with the collective agreement, considering years of experience and QECO classification. Duties And Responsibilities Work with students identified under the category of Communication: Autism as defined by the ministry of Education: Communication: Autism: A severe learning disorder that is characterized by: disturbances in rate of educational development; ability to relate to the environment; mobility; perception, speech, and language; lack of the representational symbolic behaviour that precedes language. Work with students who may possess a range of communication strategies, challenging behaviours, safety concerns, sensory needs, and personal care needs. Support the implementation of transition plans, safety plans, and de-escalation strategies. Implement the use of structured learning classrooms with extensive visual and sensory supports to provide meaningful, life skills and functional academic programming. Support the implementation of Applied Behaviour Analysis strategies and recommendations. Work with students to develop learning skills, coping strategies, self-regulation, self-advocacy, and independence skills. Lead the program and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team that may include: Educational Assistants, Behaviour Specialists, ABA Program Leads, Speech Language Pathologists, Child and Youth Worker, and other support staff as appropriate (including personnel from outside agencies). Lead the program with a focus on communication, social interaction, independence, self-regulation, and other goals outlined in the IEP. In accordance with the current OECTA Collective Agreement, priority placement will be given to any qualified redundant and supernumerary permanent teachers in order of seniority before offering the position to an Occasional Teacher. If the assignment remains unfilled, qualified applications from the Occasional Teachers List will be considered. In the event the assignment is still unfilled, qualified applicants that are not on the Occasional Teachers List may be considered. The Board shall access and review the information contained in an applicant's portfolio for hiring purposes.
