Job summary
Introduction Brunel is currently seeking a Sustaining Manager to lead a multidisciplinary sustaining engineering team responsible for supporting and continuously improving a portfolio of complex industrial products throughout their lifecycle. This position will oversee sustaining engineering activities from production launch through end-of-life, ensuring products remain reliable, cost-effective, manufacturable, and aligned with customer expectations. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, drive continuous improvement initiatives, support operational excellence, and collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, service, and customer-facing teams to deliver high-performance solutions in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Lead the Sustaining Engineering team and oversee all post-launch engineering activities across the product portfolio. Manage engineering changes, cost reduction initiatives, quality improvements, component approvals, second-source qualifications, and field issue resolution. Provide technical guidance on mechanical systems, fluid systems, thermal management, materials selection, and root cause investigations. Ensure engineering changes are executed in accordance with established product development processes, quality standards, and project timelines. Prioritize sustaining activities based on business impact, customer commitments, product quality, and manufacturing requirements. Drive Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to improve product performance and reduce costs. Support manufacturing teams by improving product manufacturability, reliability, and production efficiency. Partner with operations, supply chain, quality, and sourcing teams to align engineering deliverables with business objectives. Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team through coaching, training, and performance management. Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop and manage departmental budgets, resource planning, and engineering roadmaps. Collaborate with suppliers, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to identify and implement best-in-class technologies and processes. Participate in company-wide initiatives focused on operational excellence, process improvements, and technology adoption. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Minimum 7 years of experience in product development, sustaining engineering, or related engineering functions. Minimum 3 years of leadership or people management experience within an engineering environment. Experience supporting products through manufacturing, production, and field deployment. Strong understanding of configuration management and engineering change control processes. Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, fluid systems, thermal management, and associated sensing technologies. Experience with quality systems, reliability engineering, and product lifecycle management (PLM). Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments and industrial products. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or equivalent professional credential. Experience leading cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives. Knowledge of reliability methodologies and structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone Analysis.
