Job summary
Duties and Responsibilities Manage and review compilation engagements and related tax filings, including corporate, personal, trust, and partnership income tax returns, as well as T4, T4A, NR4, T5, T5001 Tax Shelter Slips, and GST/HST returns. Manage review engagements, particularly those that form part of larger corporate group engagements, by coordinating planning, execution, communication, and completion across multiple related entities while ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to professional standards. Completing client engagements while ensuring compliance with professional standards, firm policies, and applicable legislation. Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout engagements, including communicating documentation requirements, engagement timelines, tax balances owing, engagement status, and billing matters. Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships by providing proactive, responsive, and high-quality client service. Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are achieved. Respond promptly to client inquiries and information requests from the Canada Revenue Agency and other tax authorities. Supervise engagement fieldwork by providing technical guidance, reviewing work performed and resolving complex issues. Train, mentor, and develop Associates, Senior Associates, and Co-op students by providing technical instruction, coaching and constructive feedback. Conduct annual performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to support employee development. Meet individual billable hour targets while contributing to the overall profitability, efficiency, and success of the firm. Requirements Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing. Minimum of 4–5 years of progressive public accounting experience, including experience supervising staff and managing client engagements. Strong knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation and tax concepts applicable to owner-managed businesses, corporations, individuals, trusts, and partnerships. Experience reviewing a variety of tax returns, including corporate, personal, trust, and partnership income tax returns, as well as GST/HST returns and related information slips. Experience in managing, planning and supervising review engagements in accordance with Canadian assurance standards. Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. Exceptional client service skills with the ability to understand clients' businesses, provide practical advice, and develop long-term professional relationships. Strong leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing junior team members while fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional correspondence, technical reports, and client presentations. Proficiency with CaseWare, Taxprep, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant accounting software; experience with CCH iFirm or similar practice management software is considered an asset.
