Job details

CAMH Education’s Patient and Family Education program is seeking a full-time temporary (12 months) Community Health and Education Coordinator. The successful candidate will primarily be focused on the development of new mental health, substance use and addiction-focused consumer health information that will be used to support and educate patients, families and the public. RESPONSIBILITIES The role requires an exceptional health and science communicator who possesses excellent research and writing skills, coupled with experience in creating and sharing plain language health information in many formats, including print and through a range of social media strategies. A thorough understanding of the mental health system, along with a highly developed understanding of health literacy and mental health literacy, are baseline requirements in this role. Experience working with subject matter experts, people with lived and living experience and caregivers are all necessary in this role. Rounding out this role, the CH&E coordinator will also work within a very cohesive team to staff the RBC Patient and Family Learning Space (PFLS). The PFLS is a patient-, family- and public-facing program that seeks to meet the educational needs of people using the service. Focused on health literacy, mental health literacy and system navigation, the coordinator will help to create a welcoming, safe and empowering space where people can ask questions, and in turn be guided to relevant and reputable information, either online or in print. Working directly with patients, families, CAMH staff and the public, the coordinator will bring a strong customer-service orientation to the position that is combined with a clear understanding of the mandate of the PFLS as an educational space. Staffing the PFLS will also involve collaborating with partners across CAMH and beyond on the ongoing development and delivery of workshops and other virtual and in-person events that support the health literacy and mental health literacy of our patients and families. For this aspect of the role, the successful candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, including non-judgmental listening, empathy, and the ability to guide people to the information they need. The coordinator will also collaborate on developing a program that enhances the safety of the program for staff and patrons. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, that relies on teamwork and effective collaboration, and that complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West. QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will have a master's degree, preferably in social sciences or a health discipline, combined with at least three years of professional experience in health communications. Professional-level project coordination and verbal and written communication skills are required. Proven experience in independently executing knowledge mobilization projects is required, including the design and facilitation of public-facing webinars and other educational events. Experience in developing and disseminating consumer health information through print and digital means is required. The ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings, with individuals from diverse backgrounds, is a must. Expertise in qualitative research methodology, end-user engagement within health settings, supporting the development and implementation of program evaluations, and social marketing are desirable skills in this position. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset. Salary Range: $37.51 – $50.60 per hour If you are interested in this position, please ensure that you apply before 5pm EST of the closing date.
