About This Opportunity At Canada Packers, food safety, quality, and animal welfare are fundamental to our business. We are seeking a Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager to lead the execution of our food safety and quality programs at our Brandon facility. Reporting to the Director, Food Safety & Quality Assurance, this site-based leadership role is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Quality Assurance team and the effective implementation of food safety, quality, sanitation verifications, laboratory, and animal welfare programs. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation, Supply Chain, and Technical Services to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and Canada Packers standards. Responsibilities Lead Food Safety and Quality Programs: Ensure food safety, quality, sanitation verification, and animal welfare programs are effectively implemented and sustained. Monitor compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements. Support and maintain HACCP and prerequisite programs. Coordinate site activities related to customer, regulatory, certification, and internal audits. Ensure product monitoring, environmental monitoring, and verification programs are completed and acted upon appropriately. Manage Quality and Food Safety Events: Lead investigations related to non-conformances, customer complaints, audit findings, and product holds. Drive root-cause analysis and corrective action activities. Ensure non-compliant product is properly identified, controlled, assessed, and dispositioned according to company procedures. Exercise authority to stop production when food safety, regulatory, or significant quality concerns are identified. Lead and Develop the QA Team: Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance management to Quality Assurance team members. Establish clear expectations and accountabilities. Develop team capability and support succession planning. Foster a culture of food safety, continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork. Build Strong Partnerships: Collaborate effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional teams. Communicate food safety and quality risks, results, and priorities in a timely and practical manner. Support implementation of corporate FSQA initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Maintain professional relationships with customers, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Skills & Experience Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, Animal Science, or a related discipline. Progressive experience in food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or a related field. Previous leadership or supervisory experience. Experience in a federally regulated food manufacturing environment is considered an asset. Strong understanding of HACCP-based food safety systems and audit programs. Strong leadership and people development skills. Excellent problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities. Strong decision-making and risk assessment skills. Ability to communicate technical information to operational teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Candidates should understand HACCP-based systems and audits and demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving, risk assessment, communication, organizational, and quality-system skills; federally regulated food manufacturing experience is an asset.
