MISSION: CSPC’s mission is to serve as an inclusive and national hub that connects sectors, regions, and communities, mobilizes and disseminates knowledge, and develops human competencies in pursuit of a more effective and efficient STI policy ecosystem Website: https://sciencepolicy.ca Position Overview The Canadian Science Policy Centre (CSPC) is seeking a creative and results-oriented Digital Communications Coordinator to lead the development and implementation of CSPC’s social media content and engagement strategies. This part-time freelance position will support the promotion of CSPC’s programs and initiatives, including the annual Canadian Science and Innovation Policy Conference, Science Meets Parliament programs, editorials and magazine publications, Science and Innovation Policy awards, virtual panels, workshops, and other events. The Digital Communications Coordinator will create engaging and accessible content, strengthen CSPC’s online presence, expand its reach, and foster meaningful engagement with Canada’s science, technology, and innovation policy community. Key Responsibilities Social Media Strategy and Engagement Develop and implement social media strategies aligned with CSPC’s communications priorities and organizational objectives. Identify opportunities to increase CSPC’s reach, visibility, audience engagement, and follower growth across its social media channels. Monitor developments, conversations, and emerging trends relevant to science, technology, innovation, and public policy. Engage professionally with CSPC’s online community, including partners, speakers, researchers, policymakers, stakeholders, and members of the public. Ensure that CSPC’s social media presence remains professional, timely, non-partisan, and consistent with its mandate and organizational voice. Manage CSPC’s social media channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Bluesky, and X accounts. Content Development and Campaign Management Develop, write, edit, schedule, and publish engaging content across CSPC’s social media channels. Plan and deliver promotional campaigns for CSPC programs and initiatives. Create and maintain social media content calendars in coordination with CSPC staff and program timelines. Adapt content for different platforms, audiences, formats, and campaign objectives. Coordinate the timely promotion of program announcements, registration deadlines, speakers, partners, publications, and other organizational updates. Review content for accuracy, clarity, tone, accessibility, and consistency with CSPC’s brand and communications standards. Graphic Design and Multimedia Content Create professional graphics and multimedia content (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator) for a wide range of products including the CSPC magazine (print and digital), event banners, partnership and sponsorship prospectuses, CSPC reports and publications, awards and other announcements, other promotional posters and banners, and other visual content. Ensure that visual materials align with CSPC’s branding and accessibility standards. Coordinate with CSPC staff, designers, and external partners when additional content or design support is required. Analytics and Reporting Monitor and analyze social media performance, including reach, engagement, audience growth, campaign results, and other relevant indicators. Prepare concise reports and provide recommendations to improve content performance and audience engagement. Use analytics and audience insights to refine social media strategies, content calendars, and promotional campaigns. Track emerging platform features, algorithm changes, and best practices relevant to CSPC’s communications activities. Qualifications & Experience Experience: Demonstrated professional experience in social media management, content creation, digital communications, marketing, or a related field. Social Media Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms, audience engagement strategies, digital marketing, and social media advertising. Content Development: Proven ability to create clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate written and visual content. Analytics: Experience monitoring social media performance, interpreting analytics, and providing practical recommendations based on results. Science and Innovation Policy: Familiarity with Canada’s science, technology, and innovation policy landscape and its major organizations and stakeholders is an asset. Education: Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, graphic design, public policy, or a related field is an asset. Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple campaigns, priorities, and deadlines. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with CSPC staff, partners, and external stakeholders. Experience using social media management and scheduling platforms; familiarity with Hootsuite is preferred. Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar graphic design tools. Sound judgment, attention to detail, creativity, and an understanding of professional and non-partisan communications. Familiarity with equity, diversity and inclusion, accessibility standards, and Truth and Reconciliation, with the ability to incorporate these principles into content development. Experience with editing web content in Wordpress is an asset. Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset. Employment Details This is a part-time independent contractor position requiring approximately 15–20 hours per week. Hours may vary during major campaigns and in the period leading up to the annual CSPC Conference. Compensation: $27 per hour The successful candidate must be available during CSPC’s regular working hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET This is a fully remote position. The successful candidate is responsible for providing their own reliable computer and suitable home office setup required to perform the duties of the role.
