Job summary
Schedules multiple services, and procedures, in the appropriate locations, collaboratively utilizing the resource staff schedule and available rooms. Room availability is determined by department managers. Liaison for MD offices, nursing departments, etc., receives all calls, assists with scheduling requests. Updates schedules for multiple departments. Prints and distributes schedule as requested and approved by manager. Distributes/mails out instructions for procedures, answers prep questions from referrers and/or patients. Confirms appointments by phone and/or letters along with distribution of prep directions, if necessary, and distributes information regarding ABN when appropriate. Produces and distributes necessary paperwork. Answers routine inquiries from clients, physicians, and other hospital personnel. Answers telephone calls in a courteous manner within a reasonable amount of time, within specific guidelines. Maintains appropriate department records and filing system to insure efficient retrieval of information. Photocopy/fax information as needed. Obtains accurate and proper information when scheduling appointments, including updated demographics and payer information. Timely communication of unresolved issues to Manager or designee to facilitate timely interventions. Pre-register outpatient appointments, including Insurance Verification utilizing online eligibility tool. Explain and process payments from patients, which may include but not limited to co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles. Follows department procedures related to securing payment information. Print and reconcile patient reports, as directed by manager or designee. Validate physician's order and/or requisition, for Medical Necessity, and proper / complete signatures. Perform other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects Cape Cod Healthcare’s commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. High School Diploma or GED. Two years recent experience (within the past 3 years) with patient registration, scheduling or billing in a Hospital, physician office or other related medical setting, OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. One year recent experience (within the past 3 years) working with third party payors including referrals preferred. Successful passage of Medical Terminology course OR successful passage of the CCH Medical Terminology exam. Demonstrated keyboarding skills at 30 WPM as demonstrated by a timed test. Ability to work independent and under pressure. Excellent telephone and communication skills.

Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of recent experience in patient registration, scheduling, or billing. Proficiency in medical terminology and keyboarding skills of at least 30 WPM are also required.
