Unposting Date: 2026-10-20 11:59 PM Copy Editor Vancouver Evenings This is a full-time permanent position scheduled for weekday evenings (1500 start). That schedule is subject to change based on operational needs. We are looking to hire an experienced copy editor to join our team and support journalism across British Columbia. Reporting to the executive producer and senior producer, you will be responsible for the timely editing and delivery of a range of news stories — from breaking news to long-form features — to CBC’s digital and social platforms, while ensuring accuracy and balance. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to British Columbia, and will have strong ties to, and a deep understanding of, under-represented communities and equity-deserving groups across the province. The job involves handling text copy, video, images and interactive features for a digital audience, as well as contributing to CBC’s live story pages. You must be familiar with and understand visual storytelling tools and techniques, and able to adapt to evolving technologies. You must be a self-starter, detail-oriented and comfortable taking on responsibilities and making independent editorial decisions. You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions, and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity, inclusion and respectful work culture. Duties: Editing daily news copy, features, long-form stories, social media copy, and text for video and graphics. Editing newsletters for the Local Service Expansion bureaus. Working urgently to cover breaking news. Ensuring inclusive language and framing in stories that accurately represent the diverse experiences of British Columbians. Ensuring stories are balanced and conform to CBC’s in-house style and Journalistic Standards and Practices. Curating story packaging — including photos, video, graphics and embeds. Ensuring the digital news lineup reflects the top stories and news priorities of the day, through an audience-first lens. Talking through story ideas and assignments with writers and producers while ensuring that perspectives from diverse and under-represented communities are considered. Identifying what a story lacks and clearly articulating to writers how to improve storytelling and packaging. Your profile: Strong news judgement and critical thinking. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism. Experience and proven ability to package online news stories in compelling and innovative ways. Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information. Strong headline writer. Good communication skills. Flexibility with work hours on weekdays and weekends. University degree or equivalent. Minimum of three years’ experience editing at a print or digital publication preferred. Assets: Use of content management systems Canadian Press style Active user of social media platforms and creator of social content. Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing. A university degree or equivalent is required, and at least three years of editing experience at a print or digital publication is preferred; familiarity with content management systems, Canadian Press style, and social platforms is an asset.
