Position Summary As a Municipal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within our Community Growth & Infrastructure Engineering team, overseeing the review and approval of projects crucial to the city's development and operations. Drawing upon your extensive expertise in municipal engineering, you will ensure adherence to the highest standards of quality and compliance with regulatory requirements. Key Accountabilities Support the Sr. Municipal Engineer with the review and approval process for final designs, ensuring alignment with municipal standards, codes, and regulations. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering their professional growth and development. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to resolve complex engineering challenges and optimize project outcomes. Conduct comprehensive assessments of proposed infrastructure projects, evaluating their feasibility, sustainability, and impact on the community. Oversee the preparation and presentation of engineering reports, drawings, and specifications for municipal projects. Serve as a subject matter expert in municipal engineering, offering insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes. Actively participate in cross-functional teams and interdepartmental initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to municipal engineering. Acts as a model of the desire values, attitudes, skills and behaviors that contribute to a safe, ethical work environment. Networks and facilitate partnerships with local, regional, provincial and federal subject matter experts and service providers, peers in other municipalities, consultants, developers, etc. Participate in the assessment of the current and future needs of the Engineering team, gathering input and feedback, utilizing evaluation tools, analyzing and reporting statistical and evaluative data. Appropriate and responsible use of confidential information; maintains confidentiality and security of all information related to the city. Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participates in workplace safety initiatives, participates in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits, ensures compliance with the City’s Health and Safety Management System, reports and assists in the analysis of near misses or incidents. Required Education And Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, with a focus on final design review and approval. OR Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline with minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, with a focus on final design review and approval. Proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects from conception to completion. Extensive knowledge of municipal regulations, codes, and standards governing infrastructure development. Required Certifications And/or Documentation Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or (P.L.Eng) designation, in good standing with APEGA. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and Drive’s Abstract deemed satisfactory by the city. Criminal Record Check deemed satisfactory by the city. Expected Skills And Attributes Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate risk associated with engineering projects. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences. Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate team members towards common goals. Strong proficiency in engineering software and tools, including AutoCAD and other design applications. Strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation. High level of professionalism and integrity, with a commitment to upholding ethical standards in all aspects of work. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities effectively. Working Conditions Normal office conditions; long periods of sitting, reading and concentration. May be required to work outside normal working hours. Occasional travel throughout the region in order to conduct site inspections, often outdoors. Position Type: Full Time, Permanent Location: City Hall Pay: $110,000.00 Days of Work: Monday to Friday

Requirements
Requires either a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with at least five years of progressive municipal engineering experience, or a related engineering technology diploma with at least eight years of experience. Candidates must hold an APEGA P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. designation in good standing and a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license, and demonstrate project management, regulatory knowledge, communication, leadership, and AutoCAD proficiency.
