Job summary

The City of Dawson is seeking a Finance Officer to join our Finance Department. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, maintaining financial records, providing front office and Finance Department coverage, and supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the City. What You'll Do The Finance Officer's responsibilities include: Processing accounts payable, including verifying invoices, coding expenses, preparing payments, electronic funds transfers, credit card payments and bank auto-payments; Reconciling vendor accounts and responding to vendor inquiries; Maintaining accurate accounts payable, vendor, contract and financial records; Preparing accounts payable reports for Council meetings; Maintaining Workers' Compensation records for contractors and purchase order records; Assisting with funding applications and project progress reporting; Assisting the Chief Financial Officer with account reconciliations; Providing coverage and support for other Finance administrative positions during absences or peak periods; and Performing other related duties as assigned. What We're Looking For Applicants should have: Completion of a business accounting course and/or two years of experience in the accounting field; Experience providing accounts payable services in a computerized environment; Working knowledge of electronic financial systems and general accounting processes; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines; Good written and verbal communication skills; Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; The ability to work independently and as part of a team; and The ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Diamond and knowledge of City of Dawson bylaws would be considered assets. A job description is available on request. Salary & Benefits This is a full-time, unionized position. The Finance Officer is classified as a Level 3 position under the Collective Agreement between the Yukon Employees' Union and the City of Dawson, with a 2026 annual salary range of $64,918 to $77,900, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
