Job Description Section: Distribution and Collection Division: Linear Infrastructure Services Department: Community Infrastructure Initial Reporting Location: Frobisher Depot Job Status: Limited Position Estimated Probable Duration: up to Seven (7) months (may be extended) Number of Vacancies: 1 Union Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly Shift Work Required: Yes - Shift work may be required Rate of Pay: $32.95 to $37.50 per hour The start date will follow the selection process. Main Function: Operate Flusher/Vacuum mechanical units in the wastewater collection system/storm water system. Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of a Water/Wastewater Supervisor II or Roads Operation Foreperson. Perform operational and maintenance functions necessary for safe and efficient service to consumers of distribution and collection facilities. Report immediately any defects in wastewater collection system. Supervise up to three (3) persons in the performance of routine duties. Carry out preventative maintenance of wastewater collection system and complete reports on same. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Education and Training: Successful completion of Secondary School Education (Grade XII). Experience Minimum of two (2) years experience with proven ability to safely and efficiently operate a vactor/hydro-excavation truck with all attachments. Other Requirements Must possess sufficient mechanical knowledge to avoid damage to equipment. Ability to read and follow manufacturers’ instruction manuals for equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to effectively complete M.M.M.S. crew cards. Ability to read and understand plans used in maintenance. Ability to read and write in English. Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history. May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid “DZ” driver’s licence, and have an acceptable driving record. This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Development opportunity rate of pay: $31.30 to $35.63 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
