Job details
Interim Controller Employment Type: Contract (3–6 months) Location: Remote (Canada) Rate: $65–75/hr Industry: Healthcare Services — Multi-Site / Private Equity-Backed Roll-Up Position Type: Backfill About the Opportunity Our client operates one of Canada's largest networks of specialty healthcare clinics, with 120+ locations spanning every province. The organization has grown rapidly through acquisition, most recently absorbing roughly 70 additional clinics across multiple brands in a single wave of deals last summer. It's backed by institutional private equity and continues to pursue an active M&A strategy as part of its long-term growth plan. That pace of acquisition has left the finance function stitched together across five ERPs (NetSuite, Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage Intacct, and two instances of QuickBooks) and five legal entities, each carrying its own brand identity, banking relationships, and AP process. The base business runs a clean three-day month-end close; several of the newly acquired entities are still finding their footing at four days, and one entity that lost its finance team mid-transition is currently closing in ten. This Controller will take hands-on ownership of the accounting operation during a period of real transition: stabilizing close timelines across a patchwork of newly integrated entities, tightening AP controls where gaps have opened up across brands, and driving the rollout of Concur, corporate cards, and consolidated banking. It's a role for someone who has worked inside an acquisitive, multi-entity environment before and is comfortable being in the detail — this is not a purely oversight function, particularly given recent turnover on the accounting team. The organization currently has no formal month-end reporting package, and consolidation is done manually in Excel. Both are open to being built by whoever steps into this role, alongside preparation for a December 31 fiscal year-end audit. Key Responsibilities Own full-cycle bookkeeping, month-end close, AP, and payment processing across five legal entities and five ERPs (NetSuite, Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks x2) Stabilize close timelines across recently acquired entities, bringing 4-day and 10-day closes toward the base business's 3-day standard Identify and close gaps in the AP process created by rapid multi-brand acquisition, including payment controls and approval workflows Lead the rollout of Concur, corporate credit cards, and standardized AP automation across all entities Drive consolidation of banking relationships across the legal entity structure Build a month-end reporting package from the ground up — none currently exists Manage and improve the current Excel-based consolidation process across entities and ERPs Provide hands-on leadership and coaching to the accounting team, including staff accountants in Halifax, a senior accountant and manager in Calgary, and temporary AP resources, given recent team turnover Partner with the CFO on accounting integration for newly acquired entities Prepare the organization for its year-end audit (December 31 fiscal year-end) What You Bring Proven experience in a highly acquisitive, multi-entity environment — you've managed accounting across multiple legal entities and ERPs before, not just one clean system Hands-on, in-the-weeds working style — comfortable doing the work directly given a lean, transitioning team, not solely reviewing and delegating Multi-ERP fluency, ideally including two or more of NetSuite, Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks Strong month-end close discipline, with a track record of tightening close timelines AP process and controls experience, including identifying and remediating gaps across a multi-brand payment structure Experience standing up expense/AP automation tools (e.g., Concur) and corporate card programs Comfortable building financial reporting infrastructure (month-end packages, consolidation processes) where none currently exists CPA designation preferred Nice to Have Experience integrating newly acquired companies onto a single ERP or chart of accounts Background in healthcare, multi-site, or franchise/rollup services businesses Excel-based consolidation modeling experience Prior experience in a private equity-backed environment Next Steps We do appreciate all interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
