Location: Waterloo, ON Site: Wilfrid Laurier University – Waterloo Campus Schedule: Event-Based, 8–12 Hour Shifts Pay Rate: CA$20.45/hour Employment Type: Temporary Contract Contract Dates: August 31 – October 30, 2026 Mandatory Availability: Saturday, September 26, 2026 Work Location: On-Site Overview Paladin Security is seeking professional, alert, and community-minded Event Security Guards to support campus safety at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo Campus during the busy fall event season. This temporary contract is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event security, crowd management, and access control while helping maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, visitors, and the broader campus community. Successful candidates will be comfortable working in busy public environments, communicating over two-way radios, managing crowds, and using sound judgment and de-escalation skills when responding to challenging situations. Responsibilities Monitor crowds and maintain a visible security presence throughout assigned areas. Check wristbands and credentials at designated access control points. Help ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas. Maintain clear and professional communication using an assigned two-way radio. Keep communication equipment operational and accessible throughout the shift. Report security concerns, suspicious activity, and incidents to supervisors. Relocate between assigned posts when directed by site supervisors. Communicate professionally with students, staff, visitors, and members of the public. Use conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation techniques when handling challenging interactions. Follow site procedures and supervisor instructions throughout each event. Remain alert and professional while standing or walking for extended periods. Perform duties outdoors in varying weather conditions. Help maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for the university community. Must Have Valid Ontario Security Guard License. Valid WSIB-approved First Aid & CPR Level C certification. Availability to work on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods of up to 12 hours. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Clear and professional verbal communication skills. Strong conflict de-escalation abilities. Legal authorization to work in Canada. Nice to Have Previous experience in event security, campus security, or crowd control. Previous experience using radio communications in a fast-paced environment. CA$20.45/hour compensation. 8–12 hour event shifts. Daily pay option through Paladin's "work today, get paid today" program. Uniforms provided at no cost.
