New Westminster Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network, is hiring Registered Nurses – Pre-Op, PACU & Phase 2 Discharge. The Registered Nurse will provide safe, compassionate, and efficient nursing care throughout the perioperative patient journey. This role gives you the opportunity to work in Pre-Operative Assessment, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), or Phase 2 Recovery/Discharge. The RN will work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive high-quality care throughout their surgical journey. Position : Part time (0.5 FTE) No of position: 1 Benefits working at Still Creek Surgical Centre * * Competitive Wage: $60.00 per hour * Paid Time Off: Enjoy paid vacation and time away from work * Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive coverage to support your health and well-being * Retirement Savings: Employer RRSP matching contributions of up to 3% of eligible earnings Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Pre-Operative Care * Complete comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments and review patient history, medications, allergies, and relevant clinical information. * Confirm patient identity, procedure, consent, and readiness for surgery in accordance with established protocols. * Obtain and document vital signs and other required pre-operative assessments. * Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery and provide education regarding the procedure, recovery, and discharge expectations. * Establish IV access and administer medications and treatments as ordered. * Identify and escalate any clinical concerns or changes in patient condition to the appropriate physician or anesthesiologist. * Ensure all required documentation, investigations, and surgical checklists are complete prior to transfer to the operating room. PACU – Post-Anesthesia Care * Receive and assess patients following surgery and anesthesia, ensuring a safe transition from the operating room. * Continuously monitor airway, breathing, circulation, level of consciousness, pain, nausea, vital signs, and other post-operative parameters. * Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or potential post-anesthetic complications. * Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen, and other treatments as ordered. * Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other patient symptoms using appropriate interventions and established protocols. * Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation. * Communicate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and other members of the care team regarding patient status. * Assess patients for readiness to progress from Phase 1 recovery to Phase 2 recovery or for further medical management when required. Phase 2 Recovery & Discharge * Continue monitoring patients as they recover from anesthesia and meet established discharge criteria. * Assess pain, nausea, mobility, hydration, vital signs, and overall readiness for discharge. * Provide clear post-operative instructions to patients and their caregivers, including medication, wound care, activity restrictions, diet, and follow-up requirements. * Confirm that patients have a responsible adult escort and appropriate arrangements for discharge, in accordance with centre policies. * Identify and escalate any concerns that may prevent safe discharge. * Ensure all discharge documentation is complete and accurate. * Provide patients and families with appropriate education and resources to support a safe recovery at home. * Follow up or communicate concerns to the appropriate physician or healthcare provider when required. Required Qualifications: * Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 2 – 3 years recent experience in an acute care post-anesthetic care unit environment, with at least 4-6 months current PACU experience within a tertiary setting. * Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals. * Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) peri-anesthesia certification or critical care certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution peri-anesthesia nursing or critical care nursing program/Completion of a health authority peri-anesthesia or critical care education program and/or the equivalent in education and experience. * Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). * Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). * Certification and recent experience with IV initiation. * Experience with care of an intubated patient. * Experience with ECG analysis. * Advanced knowledge of regional anesthesia, neuroaxial anesthesia, multimodal analgesia and chronic pain. * Adaptable to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. * Ability to maintain a physically demanding job. * Must be able to work staggered shifts, possibly extended shifts. * Excellent assessment, organization, communication and team interaction skills. * Current immunization for hepatitis B, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria. * Current tuberculin skin testing (within 6 months before date of hire).
