Role: Senior Data Architect — Airline Operations Data (hands-on delivery) Location: Remote (Canada) Duration: Long Term on Contract Experience: 15 Years ROLE DESCRIPTION This is a hands-on delivery role on a live operational data platform, not an advisory or enterprise architecture position. The person owns the data model and the physical design, writes and reviews the artefacts themselves, and is the direct technical counterpart to the client's DBA and operations stakeholders. There is no ramp-up window. Must have: 12+ years in data architecture and data modelling, with the majority of current time spent hands-on rather than reviewing or directing others' work. Airline operations data domain — flight schedules, flight legs, actual times, delay and disruption coding, and IATA operational data standards. Aviation maintenance or MRO experience is related but is not the same domain and counts only as partial. Conceptual, logical and physical data modelling, including canonical or common data model design and source-to-target mapping. Current working use of Erwin or ER/Studio. Hands-on PostgreSQL — authoring DDL, constraints, keys, indexing and performance-oriented physical design. Cloud-managed PostgreSQL preferred. Message-driven integration — XML or JSON message payloads, interpreting schema definitions directly, queue-based delivery and API-layer integration. Batch ETL experience alone is not sufficient. Version-controlled database change management — migration scripts delivered through a CI/CD pipeline with pull request review. Demonstrated client-facing technical ownership, including defending design decisions directly to a client DBA and to business stakeholders. Good to have: MuleSoft or a comparable enterprise integration platform. AWS data services. Data Vault or comparable historised modelling patterns. Prior exposure to airline scheduling and operations systems.
