We’re looking for an experienced operations leader to join our team as Branch Manager, Fort McMurray Commercial. This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader to oversee branch operations, customer relationships, contract performance, financial results, safety, and team leadership in the Fort McMurray area. ROLE OVERVIEW The Branch Manager, Fort McMurray Commercial will lead the branch’s operations, financial performance, and customer relationships. This role is responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and profitable services across the Fort McMurray area. The Branch Manager will oversee the Fort McMurray collection contract throughout its full term, ensuring service commitments are met, customer relationships are well managed, issues are resolved promptly, and contract performance continues to improve. The role will also support the integration of acquired businesses in the area and oversee other branch lines of business. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Safety Leadership Lead a strong safety culture across all branch operations. Ensure the branch meets health and safety, transportation, environmental, customer, municipal, and company requirements. Complete safety audits, field observations, training, and emergency drills. Lead incident investigations and make sure corrective actions are completed. Ensure employees, contractors, and subcontractors follow all required safety rules. Fort McMurray Collection Contract Management Manage the day-to-day delivery of the Fort McMurray collection contract. Ensure collection routes, schedules, service levels, reporting, and customer commitments are met. Track service, safety, customer complaints, productivity, costs, and contract compliance. Act quickly when performance falls below requirements and put improvement plans in place. Keep up to date on contract requirements, service measures, reporting deadlines, credits, penalties, scope changes, and renewal dates. Ensure contract records, reports, billing support, and internal updates are accurate and completed on time. Work with Fleet, Dispatch, Safety, Customer Service, and other teams to resolve issues that affect contract performance. Customer and Stakeholder Relationships Act as the main operational contact for the customer, municipal representatives, and other contract stakeholders. Build strong, professional working relationships throughout the contract term. Lead regular customer meetings and provide clear updates on performance, issues, and improvement actions. Resolve customer concerns and service issues quickly, professionally, and with a focus on preventing repeat problems. Support discussions on contract changes, pricing, renewals, and new service opportunities with senior leadership. Represent the branch at customer, regional, and community meetings. Operational Oversight Lead daily branch operations to meet service, safety, cost, and customer targets. Manage staffing, scheduling, routes, fleet use, maintenance coordination, dispatch, and daily workflow. Use key performance indicators to improve safety, service quality, productivity, costs, and employee engagement. Maintain plans to manage weather events, staffing shortages, fleet downtime, and service disruptions. Look for ways to improve route density, fleet use, capacity, services, and revenue in the region. Acquisition Integration Support the integration of acquired businesses, employees, customers, assets, and operations in Fort McMurray. Bring acquired operations into company safety standards, operating processes, customer-service practices, reporting, and systems. Work with internal teams to set integration plans, timelines, responsibilities, communications, and risk controls. Build positive relationships with acquired employees and customers to support a smooth transition and strong retention. Identify opportunities to standardize work, improve operations, and grow services after an acquisition. Team Leadership Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and lead branch employees. Ensure the branch has enough staff and supervision for the collection contract, acquired operations, and other lines of business. Build a respectful, positive, and accountable workplace. Complete performance reviews, coaching, corrective action, succession planning, and employee development. Build cross-training and backup coverage to support reliable operations. Financial Accountability Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth. CANDIDATE PROFILE Education High School or GED equivalent; post-secondary education. Courses in business management, leadership, and environmental waste regulation are assets. Certifications: First Aid Leadership for Safety Excellence Experience Minimum 5 years in a field operations management role with direct supervisory experience. Intermediate computer literacy (Microsoft Office, databases, spreadsheets). Proven experience in coaching, training, and performance improvement. Broad knowledge of waste/environmental services and AER regulations. Knowledge/Skills Strong planning and organizational skills in fast-paced environments. Strategic and proactive problem-solving abilities. Collaborative decision-making and effective communication. Time management and multitasking proficiency. Familiarity with business accounting and reporting, including profit and loss analysis. Understanding of HR processes, DOT, OSHA, and Waste Management regulations.
