Job details

ARE YOU READY TO COOK WITH PURPOSE? At Community Options, we believe that every child deserves a seat at the table and a nutritious start to their day. We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate Cook to join our EDNW Early Learning and Childcare Centre. This isn’t just about following recipes; it’s about nurturing the next generation and supporting families through the power of healthy, inclusive food. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF OUR COOK With a consistent 5-hour daily schedule, you will become a familiar, comforting face in our centre. Your role focuses on two vital areas: nourishing our children and empowering our community. Your daily impact will include: * Creating Healthy Beginnings: You will plan and prepare two nutritious snacks and a lunch every day, ensuring they are appetizing, well-balanced, and attractive to young eyes. * Inclusive Nourishment: You will be the champion for children with food allergies, thoughtfully preparing alternate meals so every child feels included and safe. * Sustainable Kitchen Management: You will handle the "behind-the-scenes" magic—shopping for weekly supplies, managing a budget, and keeping our kitchen as the clean, orderly heart of the home. * Celebrating Together: You’ll occasionally showcase your skills for special events like family dances, picnics, or fundraising dinners. WHO YOU ARE We are looking for a "self-motivated team player" who leads with a positive attitude. This role is perfect for you if: * You are Compassionate: You work non-judgmentally with families from all walks of life. * You are Skilled: You have experience cooking for groups and understand how to follow the Canada Food Guide. * You are Detail-Oriented: You take pride in maintaining precise records, from inventory to food safety documentation. * You are Physically Active: You are comfortable standing for your shift and can handle lifting up to 50 lbs as you manage kitchen deliveries. QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS * Certifications: You must have (or be willing to obtain) Food Safety Certification and Standard Childcare First Aid/CPR. * Safety Checks: A Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Record Check are required to ensure the safety of our little ones. * Education: A Childcare Staff Qualification (Level 1) is a wonderful asset. * Reliability: Our children count on you, so being dependable and organized is a must. WHY JOIN COMMUNITY OPTIONS? You will be a valued member of the Community Options family. You’ll have the chance to work independently in your kitchen while remaining supported by a Director who values your professional growth and community involvement.
