Division: Global News Toronto Status: Full-Time Location: Toronto, ON - Don Mills (On-site) About the Role: Global Toronto is seeking a full-time Digital broadcast Journalist to join the team. Reporting to the Executive Producer, this role will be responsible for generating enterprising content for multiple platforms, primarily online. This journalist will work closely with our political reporters at Queen's Park and municipally. This position supports our multi-platform, digital-first strategy and contributes to our commitment to delivering news content 24/7. The successful candidate should be open to reporting on television and radio as well. This is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement. You will contribute by: The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position. Initiating and developing story and feature ideas through contact development, research, and interviews. Gathering and producing original content of local and/or national interest. Posting updates online as a story is being developed. Ensuring that the online output for Global News Toronto is in sync with broadcast priorities. Assigning online stories, with the support of the Managing Editor and Assignment Desk. Writing, voicing, and editing news stories for broadcast and web while meeting multiple daily deadlines. Reporting live on-location and in-studio. Performing other duties as required. Skills and experience you will bring: Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field. Minimum five years of reporting experience is required. Experience in enterprise journalism, especially work on Freedom of Information requests and political reporting. Exceptional news writing, news delivery, and storytelling skills. Strong news judgment and editorial skills. Proven experience in diverse and inclusive storytelling. Proficient in creating, curating, and developing content using content management systems for multiple platforms. Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation. Ability to work well independently as well as effectively collaborate in a team setting. Work well under pressure while meeting strict deadlines, possess a desire to be the best, and have a positive can-do attitude. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adjust to changing priorities and objectives.
