We offer a collaborative and dynamic workplace where our values of Respectful, Strategic and Accountable guide our conduct and contribute to a healthy culture Job Description Transportation and Utilities is looking for a full-time permanent Heavy Equipment Operator for our Operations West team to operate rubber tire backhoe out of Beaverlodge shop. The successful candidate will have the capability to operate various pieces of heavy equipment such as grader, paver, gravel truck, loader, and bobcat. The position may be required to perform general labour duties as needed. Previous experience in asphalt patching is preferred. Job Duties & Responsibilities Operating various pieces of heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures. Operate backhoe to install and replace centerline and approach culverts as well as small ditch cleaning jobs. Operate various types of equipment to assist with snow removal Keeping detailed and accurate records of work completed (i.e. loads hauled, locations and culvert inventory). Communicate with co-workers and supervisors. Participate in safety meetings. Deal with members of the public in a courteous, respectful manner. Provide labour or other related duties as assigned. Operators have a responsibility to promote and participate in the County’s health and safety program, follow safe work procedures and comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Qualifications Class 5 Driver's License and clean abstract Class 1 driver’s license is an asset; Class 1 driver’s license required to operate some equipment Ability to operate a transit Experience towing a trailer Willingness and ability to work long hours including weekends when required Ability to operate heavy equipment (loader, skidsteer, packer etc.) Ability to interact with members of the public and coworkers effectively and courteously Physical ability to perform labour duties Ability to use hand/power tools Ability to do basic maintenance on equipment would be an asset Experience with Microsoft 365 and an ability to use computers Additional Information What We Offer The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package, including comprehensive benefits and participation in the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP). Occasional evening meetings or additional hours may be required to support operational needs and special projects. Hourly Pay: $36.48 – $42.92.
