General Information Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities such as majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to fill to fill two positions as temporary part time, Truckdriver, for up to two months, in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling and Waste Management Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Logistics Superintendent and may be supervised by the Recycling Leader V, the Truckdriver contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling Facilities through the efficient and safe collection and hauling of residential and commercial waste using tandem axle collection trucks and other equipment as required. This posting is to accommodate summer operations. These positions will start approximately early September 2026. Qualifications Secondary School graduation or equivalent Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License or 6 months of driving for CVRD using a Class 3 Driver’s License is required Roll-Off Truck driving or Relief Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License is considered an asset Experience in customer relations and conflict management Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement Level 1 First Aid with CPR Front End Loader Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor – employer provided, would be an asset. Hours of Work This temporary part time position is guaranteed 20 hours per week, and may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week to meet the demands of summer operations, as required. The successful applicant must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week. Salary This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with a Step 1 wage rate of $36.22 per hour and a Step 2 wage rate of $38.44 per hour (2026 wage rates). Benefits are included with this position. Requirements
Candidates must possess a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with an Air Brake Endorsement and at least two years of relevant driving experience. A secondary school graduation or equivalent is required, along with Level 1 First Aid and CPR certification.
