Role Description The Traffic Control Person is a full-time, on-site role located in Surrey, BC, responsible for maintaining safe traffic flow around active construction sites. This position sets up, monitors, and adjusts traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barriers according to project and regulatory requirements. The Traffic Control Person directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic using stop/slow paddles and hand signals, and coordinates closely with equipment operators and site supervisors to minimize hazards. Daily tasks include inspecting traffic control setups, responding to changing site conditions, communicating clearly with the construction crew, and documenting any incidents or safety concerns. The role requires consistent adherence to company safety policies and provincial traffic control standards throughout each shift. Qualifications Knowledge of traffic control procedures, signage standards, and relevant provincial regulations. Strong situational awareness and ability to monitor multiple traffic movements safely. Clear verbal communication skills for directing drivers, pedestrians, and on-site teams. Ability to stand for extended periods, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and lift or move traffic control equipment. Valid Traffic Control Person certification (or equivalent), with up-to-date safety training such as WHMIS or first aid considered an asset. Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and safety protocols consistently. Previous experience in construction, road work, or related field is an advantage but not mandatory. Eligibility to work in Canada and access to reliable transportation to and from the Surrey, BC jobsite.
