Job Title: Restaurant Host Department: Food and Beverage Reports To: Restaurant Manager Summary The Restaurant Host is responsible for the first and last impression for every guest as well as the overall flow and efficiency of the service process. This position is responsible to greet guests in a friendly, timely and efficient manner and have them seated in accordance with the established seating procedures based on current staffing levels. Engaging with the guests will create a positive first impression and set the server up for a successful dining experience. Ensure that the highest standards of hospitality are demonstrated at all times. Positioning Statement: The Restaurant Host professionally represents the hotel through the creation of a value based workplace environment where team mates and guests are treated in a fair, respectful and honorable manner. Essential Day to Day Duties & Responsibilities: Greet guests in a professional and courteous manner. Expert in the restaurant floor plan, the flow of dining service and an excellent support to the servers. Familiar with all drink and food menus, advise guests on favourites and make recommendations for food and beverages. Observe guests and manage expectations accordingly especially if there is a waitlist. Assist servers in having the tables ready and the flow of guests moving. Respond quickly to guest requests or complaints in a professional manner to ensure appropriate action is taken. Inform supervisors and follow up to ensure guest satisfaction. Answer the phone with the appropriate greeting and answer any questions within your ability. Routinely clean, organize work areas, glassware, and silverware. Knowledgeable of hotel property, amenities, area attractions and transportation to increase guests’ satisfaction. Keep all service areas and work stations stocked appropriately and to note items out of stock on weekly order sheet. Possess thorough knowledge of Sanitation and Food Safe procedures as established by the Health Board and hotel policies and procedures. Stay safe all the time. Following our safety procedures, you will report all incidents and put safety first for yourself, your team mates and our guests. Take pride in your appearance and position as a hotel ambassador. Follow all department uniform and grooming requirements. Always know what events and activities are on the day’s schedule in the hotel and neighbourhood. Jump into other ad-hoc duties when your colleagues need your assistance. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all departments in the hotel to work together to deliver the most memorable experience to the guest.
