Location New Westminster/Coquitlam Campus Salary Range $18.42 per hour The Opportunity The Student Assistant, Communications ( LLPA & HSS ) will work closely with an administrative staff supervisor as well as faculty members to assist in creating various forms of content, including social media posts, newsletters and printed materials. Responsibilities WHAT IT TAKES Assists with putting together timely and original content of interest to current students and faculty in Language, Literature, and Performing Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences Assists with creating an integrated social media plan each semester for the Faculties’ Instagram accounts and other social media accounts. Takes photos and videos at events hosted by the Faculties Coordinates social media interviews with students and staff in courses and clubs associated with the Faculties. Supports the Administrative Officers in the Faculties on related projects. To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Need Experience creating high quality Instagram grid posts, stories and reels Experience using Canva, Marq, or other design software Interested in photography and videography Experience in photography, videography, and video editing Comfortable being behind and in front of the camera Strong public speaking skills Strong copywriting skills Collaborative approach to content creation Able to work independently while following guidelines and meet deadlines Able to receive and appropriately respond to feedback in a collaborative approach to content creation Successful completion of courses in document design, social media, and communication planning is an asset Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant: The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant: The international student is enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, throughout the academic year; OR The international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., has a valid Study Permit that has the notation – “May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.” Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required. An original copy of a Social Insurance Number ( SIN ) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College. Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions. Additional Information The position is located at the New Westminster and Coquitlam Campus Campus. Hours of work: up to a maximum of 20 hours/week. The work terms for this position are: Fall Semester 2026 – September 8, 2026 – December 19, 2026 Winter Semester 2027 – January 4, 2027 – April 23, 2027 Summer Semester 2027 – May 10, 2027 – August 21, 2027
