Job summary
You will design, model, and develop mechanical components for Coolant Distribution Units using SolidWorks while managing the product lifecycle from concept to mass production. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design functionality, manufacturability, and compliance with technical requirements.
Job details
Join CoolIT, an Ecolab Company, a global leader in Direct Liquid Cooling technology for data centers, supercomputers, and high-performance computing environments. As a Mechanical Designer at CoolIT, you will play a key role in the development of next generation Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) products. You will be responsible for product design including CAD modelling, drafting and technical documentation, product change management, and ensuring designs are suitable for scalable high-volume production. You will be a core team member throughout the new product introduction (NPI) process, from concept development to prototyping, validation testing, and mass production. This role requires a strong mechanical background with a high level of proficiency in CAD and creating technical engineering drawings. What’s in it For You Day 1 Coverage: Employer-paid comprehensive benefits, including dental, prescription drug, vision, paramedical coverage, and a $1,000 annual Health Spending Account. RRSP: 2% employer-sponsored contribution. Enjoy three weeks of vacation, six flex days, and a one-week paid company-wide holiday shutdown. $1,000 Annual professional development allowance to support your ongoing learning, skill development, and career growth. Dress for your day in a casual, professional environment. Work in a hybrid environment. What You Will Do Design, model, and develop mechanical components and assemblies for Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) using SolidWorks. Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings and product design collaterals to communicate design intent, performance, and recommendations. Conduct design reviews focusing on design functionality, performance, cost, and manufacturability. Select components and work with quality and supply chain teams to qualify vendors and suppliers to ensure all components are high quality, reliable, meet compliance requirements. Build, test, and evaluate component and assembly prototypes, incorporating findings to optimize thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical performance. Support product lifecycle and change management processes by preparing Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and other technical documentation. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, customers, suppliers, and industry partners to ensure successful project execution. Position Details This position is located at Cool IT’s Quarry Park office in Calgary, Alberta. Up to 10% travel (domestic and international) may be required. Minimum Qualifications Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years of directly relevant experience, with at least 3 years related to the design or manufacture of physical products or hardware. Proficiency using 3D CAD software for modelling and creation of engineering technical drawings. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Skilled at modelling complex 3D parts and creating and maintaining large assemblies in 3D CAD systems, particularly using Solidworks. Experience in design of electromechanical and fluid-mechanical systems, electrical cabinets, and piping assemblies. Experience with component selection with strict technical and regulatory compliance requirements; particularly with respect to valves, seals, pumps, sensors, piping, or HVAC and fluid transfer. Experience with creating technical engineering drawings using both plus/minus tolerancing and GD&T (ASME Y14.5). Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and component design for high-volume manufacturing using sheet metal, machining, welding, casting, and injection molding processes. Experience with assembly design for high-volume production; Design for Assembly (DfA) analysis, RSS statistical tolerance analysis, Poke-Yoke, etc. Experience with product data management (PDM), product lifecycle management (PLM), and engineering change management. Familiar with revision control and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes. Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness, driving projects to closure. #LI-Hybrid During pre-screening, we may use an AI tool, supported by human oversight, to efficiently manage tasks such as resume screening and/or interview scheduling.
