Job Description Junior Engineer, Bridges - Engineer in Training is an entry-level to junior structural engineering role based in Grande Prairie, AB, Canada. The position supports the planning, detailed design, rehabilitation, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on bridge structures and related civil infrastructure. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, the role contributes to projects from conceptual development through detailed design and construction support. Responsibilities span structural analysis, engineering calculations, design documentation, quantity take-offs, cost estimating, technical reporting, tender support, and coordination with highway, geotechnical, environmental, drainage, and electrical disciplines. Work may involve bridge rehabilitation, new bridge construction, field evaluations, and transportation structure inspections in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards. The ideal candidate holds a Civil or Structural Engineering degree, is pursuing professional licensure, and has exposure to infrastructure design and transportation projects. Experience supporting bridge design, structural assessments, and technical documentation is beneficial. Key Responsibilities Perform structural design calculations and engineering analysis for bridge rehabilitation and new bridge design projects. Prepare engineering design packages, including drawings, specifications, technical reports, and quantity take-offs. Support bridge rehabilitation and transportation infrastructure design from concept development through construction services. Develop and maintain engineering models to support structural design and project delivery. Contribute to cost estimating, quantity calculations, and budget development activities. Assist with transportation structure inspections, evaluations, and rehabilitation assessments. Review and support preparation of tender documentation, including specifications and procurement packages. Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities with highway, geotechnical, environmental, drainage, and electrical teams. Provide technical reporting and project documentation to support project execution and quality requirements. Ensure engineering compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and project requirements. Assist with construction support activities and respond to technical design inquiries during project delivery. Participate in project planning and schedule development while supporting defined scopes of work. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) or actively working toward professional licensure. 0 to 4 years of engineering experience in structural, bridge, or transportation infrastructure design. Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation, and design deliverables. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Demonstrated problem-solving, attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Valid driver's license and access to an insured and registered vehicle. Knowledge of applicable structural design codes, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements. Assets Experience on transportation engineering projects. Experience using AutoCAD. Experience preparing tender specifications and procurement documentation. Exposure to bridge rehabilitation and transportation structure inspection projects. Experience supporting projects through detailed design and construction phases. Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Familiarity with multidisciplinary infrastructure project delivery environments.
