About us
The Transportation Infrastructure Management Division (TIMD) works in collaboration with other divisions to support MTO's commitment to provide a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation system by delivering on a capital program, including the planning, engineering and construction, and other related program administration functions of the provincial highway network and other provincial transportation infrastructure. Program activities also involve investment planning and asset management, engineering and design, property acquisition, new construction planning and sourcing, asset rehabilitation and renewal, contract management and oversight, and environmental assessments.
The Major Highway Projects Division (MHPD) provides end-to-end delivery of major infrastructure projects using a range of contract delivery methods and partnerships, while working closely with delivery partners - within MTO, across the OPS, agencies, industry, and municipal and First Nations communities. Infrastructure projects include Highway 413, Bradford Bypass, Garden City Skyway twinning, Ring of Fire roads, and Highway 401 tunnelling, among others.
This competition will be used to create an eligibility list to fill upcoming opportunities within the next twelve months. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work out of one of the following locations:

Mandatory requirements • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). • The positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidates providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Knowledge: • Knowledge theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering to provide engineering, technical and administrative guidance on transportation in-house and external consultant projects. • Working knowledge of related fields including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, construction practices • Knowledge of consultant management principles and procedures to coordinate and oversee the acquisition, monitoring and evaluation of service providers in the delivery of engineering assignments. • Knowledge of related legislative acts such as Environmental Assessment Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act and Drainage Act to ensure adherence of designs.
Communication, Presentation and Relationship-Building Skills: You have: • Communication and presentation skills to make presentations and represent the ministry on engineering and technical matters. • Relationship-building skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, senior officials and the public. • Written communication skills to write reports and briefing notes as well as to prepare ministerial correspondence responding to public inquiries.
Project Management Skills and Knowledge: • You have knowledge of project management techniques to manage projects of small and medium size and complexity. • You are able to provide engineering, technical and administrative advice/guidance to junior staff and consultants • You can provide guidance on the acquisition, monitoring and evaluation of service providers in the delivery of engineering assignments.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: You are able to: • Assess engineering designs, proposals, contract drawings and documents to prepare special provisions and standards against established standards and guidelines. • Review proposals to determine their viability and oversee project budgets to ensure project parameters are met. • Review, analyze information data, identify issues that have direct impact on public safety, natural/social environment, engineering design standards and cost, and provide engineering solutions.
