As the Manager of Accounting, you will step into a key leadership role within the Regina-based finance team. You will provide day-to-day direction to a team of accounting professionals, help ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and play an important role in strengthening processes and supporting the continued evolution of the accounting function. Key Responsibilities As the Manager of Accounting, you will provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day financial accounting function while ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial information for the business. Financial Accounting & Month-End Reporting Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and delivered within established timelines. Manage and support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, adjustments, and financial results. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information and provide meaningful analysis to finance leadership. Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements and other internal and external reporting requirements. Take a hands-on approach to more complex accounting matters and reconciliations when required. Leadership & Team Management Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to a team of approximately four accounting professionals across senior and junior levels. Help establish priorities, manage deadlines, and ensure the team remains organized and on track during busy reporting periods. Coach and mentor team members, providing constructive feedback and addressing performance concerns in a direct and supportive manner. Participate in hiring, training, performance management, and the ongoing development of the accounting team. Create a collaborative and respectful team environment while bringing the structure and direction needed to support a high-performing accounting function. Audit, Controls & Compliance Support and coordinate year-end audit activities and work closely with external auditors to ensure information is prepared accurately and efficiently. Assist with the preparation of audited financial statements and support other customer, government, and regulatory audits as required. Monitor and strengthen internal controls, ensuring accounting practices align with company policies, regulatory requirements, and sound financial practices. Provide guidance on accounting policies, procedures, financial reporting, and record-keeping requirements. Support research and analysis related to accounting requirements, statutory reporting, and other compliance matters. Exposure to tax and CRA-related requirements is considered an asset. Process Improvement & Technology Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve accuracy, and increase the efficiency of the financial reporting cycle. Work with finance leadership and operational stakeholders to improve processes and strengthen financial controls. Leverage strong Excel and data-management skills to simplify, analyze, and manipulate large volumes of financial information. Bring a technology-forward mindset and an openness to automation, AI-enabled tools, and other opportunities to modernize the accounting function. Support ongoing projects and initiatives within the Finance department as the organization continues to evolve its systems and processes. Business Partnership & Collaboration Work closely with the Divisional Controller, finance leadership, operations, HR, and other internal stakeholders to support effective financial practices and business decision-making. Provide financial insight and guidance to internal stakeholders while ensuring accounting priorities are aligned with broader business needs. Support aspects of the budgeting process, including financial coding, data preparation, and related accounting support. Assist the Divisional Controller in establishing priorities within the accounting function and driving continuous improvement. Qualifications To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate strong financial accounting fundamentals, leadership capability, and the ability to bring structure and direction to a busy accounting function. Education & Experience: A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline is required. A CPA designation is strongly preferred, and candidates currently pursuing their CPA designation will also be considered. Exceptional candidates without a CPA may be considered if they bring significant relevant experience and another strong credential, such as an MBA. Progressive experience in financial accounting, including responsibility for month-end close, year-end processes, financial reporting, and audit support. Previous people leadership experience is an asset; however, strong Senior Accountants or Senior Financial Analysts who are ready to step into their first formal management role are encouraged to apply. Experience in public practice is also considered relevant, particularly for candidates with strong accounting fundamentals who are interested in transitioning into an industry environment. Manufacturing experience is not required. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. Experience supporting year-end activities and working with external auditors. Strong Excel and data-management skills, with the ability to efficiently work with and simplify large volumes of information. A high level of comfort with technology, automation, and opportunities to improve accounting processes. Experience with ERP systems and other financial technologies is considered an asset. Exposure to tax, statutory reporting, CRA requirements, or other regulatory reporting is an asset but not required. A hands-on and adaptable approach, with the ability to balance management responsibilities with more complex accounting work when required.
