Role Description The Senior Fire Alarm Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Ottawa, ON. This role involves performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and manufacturer specifications. The Senior Fire Alarm Technician will lead or support installations and upgrades of fire alarm equipment, panels, and devices, while documenting all work performed and maintaining accurate service records. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting drawings and schematics, coordinating with customers and site contacts, identifying and resolving system issues, and providing technical guidance to junior technicians as needed. The person in this role will also help ensure that all safety procedures are followed, participate in scheduled maintenance programs, and communicate clearly with office staff and clients about service findings and recommendations. Qualifications Strong technical knowledge of fire alarm systems, including installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation for fire alarm equipment. Familiarity with applicable fire codes, building codes, and industry standards (e.g., ULC, NFPA, local regulations) and the ability to apply them in field work. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, meters, and programming devices related to fire alarm panels and associated components. Demonstrated ability to lead projects or service calls, mentor junior technicians, and coordinate tasks efficiently on-site. Effective communication and customer service skills, including clear reporting, explanation of findings, and professional interaction with clients and colleagues. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for documenting work, maintaining records, and following established procedures. Capability to work safely in various environments, including adherence to health and safety policies, use of PPE, and safe handling of tools and equipment. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to customer sites in and around Ottawa, ON.
