Job summary
Our client is a global deep tech holding company working across roughly 10 countries and 30 businesses, in areas like fintech, data, and mobility (think transport, logistics, and smart cities). Most AI today is good at talking: answering questions, writing text, giving advice. Our client builds the part that's missing: AI that can act in the real world and run things, not just describe them. That matters most for the organisations that can't take risks with their data or their systems, like airports, banks, power grids, and governments. So our client builds AI that these organisations can fully own and control themselves, instead of relying on someone else's servers. We are looking for a foundational engineer to work directly with leadership in defining system architecture and building the technical foundation of a new platform. You will bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation by defining high (architecture) to low (component) level design for extending, scaling, and maintaining our AI SDK. This is a high leverage role where one engineer is expected to deliver the impact of multiple traditional roles through strong system thinking and AI-assisted development. You will be one of the first critical hires, helping shape both the system and the future team. Responsibilities 1. Design systems across: - Architecture - Modules / Components / Containers - API contracts 2. Translate business needs into scalable and efficient technical systems. 3. Use AI tools to: - Generate code - Critically review and validate outputs 4. Define and evaluate: - Testing strategies - Edge cases - Failure scenarios 5. Navigate and understand large codebases independently. 6. Contribute to technical direction and hiring decisions. Requirements Must Have · 10+ years of experience. · Strong system design and architecture skills. · Ability to deeply understand and critique complex systems. · Strong grasp of testing in complex environments. · Experience working with AI-assisted development workflows. Preferred Qualifications · Generalist background across multiple domains. · Experience building systems from scratch. · Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity and complexity. · Recent hands-on coding experience including agentic coding. Not a Fit If · You specialize in a single language or stack. · You prefer execution over system thinking. · You are not actively adapting to AI-driven development. · You have been fully removed from hands-on work.
