This role owns the full RFQ-to-quote lifecycle, ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, and delivered in a timely manner, while aligning with shop capacity, technical requirements, and Fortis’ quality standards. Success in this role is reflected in the ability to quickly build strong working relationships with internal subject matter experts, take full ownership of the estimating function, and consistently deliver high-quality, reliable quotations. It also includes contributing to the ongoing improvement of estimating practices and providing steady leadership, guidance, and support to the team. Why You’ll Love Working Here Collaboration – complementary Group of Companies servicing the mining and construction industries Innovation– if it doesn’t exist, we will engineer and manufacture it Excellence – be a part of an industry leader in quality, safety, & integrity Culture – a diverse team that values collaboration, innovation, and community What You’ll Be Doing Complete the full fabrication and welding quoting process from RFQ receipt through submission, consolidating and clarifying customer requirements into a clear and structured scope to ensure accurate pricing and a smooth transition following award Define manufacturing steps and calculate run times in collaboration with shop supervisors and coordinators Compile internal and external quotations and submit documentation with supporting pricing and supplier details Participate in setting competitive pricing strategies Maintain an active review of competitors to ensure competitive pricing and market practices Prepare and facilitate quote/no quote meetings Develop, maintain, and improve estimating processes, tools, cost sheets, and quoting standards Identify risks related to execution, long-lead items, pricing volatility, and capacity constraints Compare estimated costs to actual costs and apply lessons learned to improve future estimates Maintain strong internal and external customer and vendor relationships Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements including CWB, CSA, ASME, and ANSI Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and company objectives What You Bring To The Table Post-secondary education is an asset, but not required Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating, and/or minimum 5 years in a lead role in steel fabrication Working knowledge of metal fabrication and welding processes, with familiarity of applicable codes and standards including CWB, CSA, ASME, and ANSI. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD is considered an asset. Experience using manufacturing ERP systems, including Global Shop, is considered an asset. Ability to prepare complete fabrication estimates and formal bid submissions Strong understanding of estimating methods, cost sheets, and estimating tools used to develop accurate bids and proposals. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, models, and blueprints Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while supporting new business opportunities. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Strong time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset.
