The applicant will be assuming the thriving general surgery practice of a retiring surgeon. It is expected that the applicant will be able to undertake a broad range of community general surgery, including elective and emergent endoscopy. Successful applicants can also participate in Chilliwack’s Virtual Breast Clinic if desired, providing single point of care to hundreds of women with surgical breast disease. The successful applicant will participate in a 1:6 call schedule. On average there will be two ORs and two endoscopy days every three weeks. Additional endoscopy days can be picked up with the Provincial Colon Screening Program. The group is affiliated with both the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU), with an expectation of clinical preceptorship for medical trainees and participation in academic teaching days. Surgical residents may also periodically complete rotations at CGH, providing additional opportunities for teaching and mentorship. Additionally, as a member of the Fraser Health medical staff, you will participate in the University of British Columbia (UBC) medical education program and are expected to apply for a clinical faculty appointment in the Division of Orthopaedics UBC Chilliwack General is a 176-bed hospital, with 24 surgical beds and an 8-bed ICU. The hospital is supported by full service General Practitioners, as well as a large complement of Internal Medicine physicians with a variety of subspecialist interests. Other surgical specialties include urology, Orthopaedics, ENT and obstetrics/gynecology. Diagnostic imaging is on site, with the exception of MRI which is available in Abbotsford which is the closest tertiary referral centre. Chilliwack is one of the fastest growing cities in British Columbia, with a population of about 110,000. It is located 1.5 hours from Vancouver and is situated between the Fraser and the Vedder Rivers, in the natural beauty of the Fraser Valley.
