The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs a variety of ultrasound examinations including abdominal, obstetrical, and vascular procedures while ensuring patient safety and quality imaging. They also assist radiologists during interventional procedures and maintain accurate patient records within the diagnostic imaging information system. Candidates must be graduates of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and hold certification with Sonography Canada or the ARDMS. Proficiency in sonographic procedures, aseptic techniques, and the ability to operate medical imaging equipment are essential.
