Preference may be given to internal applicants. Duties: The Assistant Works Supervisor works as a member of a crew operating specialized equipment or tools specific to the Bridge Maintenance Program. In the absence of the Area Works Supervisor, the Assistant Works Supervisor will organize, direct, and supervise all Bridge Maintenance activities within the designated work area. Qualifications: Essential: Experience related to bridge maintenance operations. Related training and experience may be considered. Experience in the operation and maintenance of commonly used bridge maintenance equipment; related experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment may be considered. Ability to complete paperwork and prepare reports. Experience with bridge maintenance policies, practices, and materials. Knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management Policies and Procedures. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Strong leadership skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong decision making skills. Desired: Basic computer experience (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet). Conditions of Employment: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must have Operator certification on core light and heavy duty equipment, and be able to be certified as a Capable Person Trainer. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting or carrying up to 25 kg, walking, sitting, or standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, twisting, bending, operating vehicles and equipment, as well as exposure to dust or pollen, irritating vegetation, and chemicals or fumes. Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and on statutory holidays and be called out to work at unusual hours and have the ability to respond to an emergency situation within a reasonable time frame (45 minutes). Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba for up to 2 weeks at a time. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. Must be able to obtain a valid Manitoba Class 3 driver’s licence with an air brake endorsement, without restrictions, within six months of employment. Why Work for Manitoba Government? Requirements also include equipment operator certification, the ability to obtain trainer certification and a Manitoba Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement, and readiness for physically demanding work, extended hours, emergency call-outs, travel, and all weather conditions.
