Office of the Chief Information Officer - Executive Council To further enable the responsible adoption and governance of artificial intelligence across government, we are seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Analyst to support AI policy development, governance and evaluation frameworks, responsible AI practices, AI-specific training, and impact assessment activities. In this role, you will help ensure that AI initiatives across government are ethical, transparent, accountable, and aligned with enterprise standards, responsible AI principles, and emerging regulatory requirements. This position leverages industry best practices, standards, and trends to support the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) in building responsible AI capabilities, embedding responsible AI principles into design and deployment to support long-term adaptability and operational sustainability. Key responsibilities will include: Governance & Policy • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of AI governance structures, including policies, guidelines, standards, evaluations, and assessment frameworks for responsible AI deployment across government. • Monitor emerging AI legislation, regulations, and industry standards to ensure government practices remain current and compliant and provide analysis to support the OCIO’s strategic direction. • Contribute to the development and maintenance of AI governance documentation including solution assessments, data lineage records, and model evaluation and performance monitoring plans. • Collaborate with security, privacy, and architecture teams to support compliance of AI solutions with government data residency and information management policies. Assessment & Assurance • Support the delivery of AI Impact Assessments in collaboration with other teams and departments, evaluating risks, benefits, and ethical implications of algorithmic systems through a responsible AI lens. • Assist in the development and maintenance of AI Impact Assessment frameworks and support documentation, ensuring alignment with government and industry AI standards. • Contribute to the ongoing monitoring and validation of AI solutions post-deployment, including tracking performance, identifying emerging risks, and supporting continuous assurance and improvement activities. Enablement & Adoption • Assist in the design, development, and delivery of AI training programs tailored to diverse audiences across government, building organization capability, AI literacy, and a shared understanding of responsible AI practices. • Contribute to the creation of educational materials, guides, and resources that communicate AI concepts, responsible AI principles, and practical tool usage in accessible, audience-appropriate terms. • Gather feedback on training effectiveness and recommend improvements based on participant feedback and evolving organizational needs. • Work with application development, data, and business teams to help identify opportunities for responsible AI augmentation across government services. • Stay current with advances in AI/machine learning (ML) technologies, responsible AI governance practices, and ethical frameworks, and evaluate their applicability within a government enterprise context. The incumbent may be asked to perform other related duties, as required. Screening Criteria Diploma in public policy, political science, ethics, public administration, or a related field (equivalencies will be considered) Experience with AI concepts and technologies, including how AI systems are designed, deployed, and evaluated to support governance and education activities Experience with policy development, governance frameworks, or regulatory analysis within a public sector or enterprise environment Experience contributing to the design or delivery of training programs, curricula, or educational materials on technology, AI, or related subjects Experience with enterprise AI platforms, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI services, or similar (asset) Assessment Criteria Knowledge of governance, policy, analysis, or regulatory work Knowledge of AI technologies, trends, and their implications for public sector service delivery Knowledge of responsible AI principles and their practical application Knowledge of risk assessments, impact assessments, or evaluation methodologies applicable to technology or AI systems Ability to contribute to the design and delivery of training programs or educational materials Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize information from multiple sources and communicate findings Ability to collaborate within a team-based or cross-functional environment Ability to efficiently manage time, priorities, and tasks Ability to effectively exchange information Conditions of Employment Conditions of Offer Recent and satisfactory Criminal Record Screening Certificate from local police Conditions of Acceptance Willing to work overtime (occasional) Information for Applicants For more information about this opportunity please contact Bryan Walsh, Director of Application Development, Design & Delivery Branch at BryanWalsh@gov.nl.ca or 709-729-5056
