Reporting to the Manager, Community Economic Development, the Program Officer delivers initiatives to facilitate provision of resources, information and training necessary for Nunavummiut to make informed decisions about community development. This position has a general impact on the Department, its branches and divisions. More direct impacts are: intra and inter regional consistency in program delivery; regional domestic and international marketing, promotion and product distribution; regional and community economic development and transportation capital and social infrastructure; success of regional businesses; nunavummiut across the territory who intend to become more economically self supporting through business development, training and job opportunities; strategies which enable communities to enjoy individual economic success as they attempt to promote and sustain a viable local economy; the successful expansion and diversification of Nunavut’s economy; programs and budgets of Government of Nunavut departments and crown corporations, Nunavut Land Claims Agreement agencies, federal departments and crown corporations and partnering agencies when entering into joint economic venture; community services Nunavut Land Claim Agreement economic obligations; and the use of renewable and non-renewable resources in traditional and non-traditional ways. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job would be attained through a University degree in Economic Development, Commerce, Renewable Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Public or Business Administration and two years related work experience. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. A university degree in Economic Development, Commerce, or a related field is required along with two years of related work experience. Knowledge of Inuit culture, Inuktut language, and experience in northern cross-cultural environments are considered assets.
