Job details

Mechanical Engineering Expert [$80 - $130/hour] Role Responsibilities Solve and validate mechanical-engineering problems involving design, analysis, simulation, testing, or R&D Translate physical systems and engineering requirements into analytical or computational models Create or modify geometry, meshes, materials, loads, contacts, constraints, and solver inputs Perform structural, thermal, dynamic, fatigue, buckling, vibration, or related analyses Use Python to automate model preparation, simulation, parameter sweeps, optimization, postprocessing, and verification Analyze stress, strain, displacement, temperature, heat flow, deformation, frequency response, safety factors, and other relevant outputs Compare simulation results with hand calculations, experimental data, reference cases, or expected physical behavior Diagnose invalid geometry, mesh problems, convergence failures, incorrect boundary conditions, and unrealistic outputs Review AI-generated engineering solutions and identify reasoning errors, incorrect assumptions, and violated physical constraints Develop clear, reproducible reference solutions and objective validation checks Iteratively improve designs for performance, mass, strength, stiffness, thermal behavior, reliability, or manufacturability Good Candidature An MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline A BS in Mechanical Engineering plus at least 1 2 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design, analysis, simulation, testing, or R&D Strong understanding of applied mechanics and mechanical-engineering fundamentals Experience developing analytical, computational, or simulation-based engineering solutions Practical proficiency with Python Experience with at least one mechanical-engineering, geometry, meshing, or simulation tool that can be operated through a CLI, scripting interface, configuration files, or programmatic API Ability to select and justify loads, boundary conditions, material properties, physical assumptions, and model fidelity Ability to troubleshoot simulations and determine whether results are physically reasonable. Ability to explain engineering decisions, limitations, and trade-offs clearly Relevant tools may include CalculiX, Gmsh, Elmer, FEniCSx, CadQuery, OpenSCAD, OpenFOAM, or similar programmatic engineering software. Experience with an equivalent CLI-accessible tool is acceptable Relevant Python tools may include NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, CAD or meshing APIs, finite-element libraries, optimization packages, or domain-specific scientific tools

What you’ll do

Solve and validate complex mechanical engineering problems through design, simulation, and R&D. Use Python to automate model preparation and analyze structural, thermal, and dynamic outputs to improve design performance.

Requirements

Requires an MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a BS with 1-2 years of professional experience in design and simulation. Proficiency in Python and experience with CLI-accessible engineering tools like OpenFOAM or CalculiX is essential.
