Job summary

Who We Are? GridS2 is a Canadian cleantech startup on a mission to help utilities modernize grid operations. Our AI-driven energy software delivers end-to-end solutions that enable distribution utilities to intelligently manage demand, integrate Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and enhance grid reliability. At the intersection of power systems, computer science, data engineering, and machine intelligence, we’re developing the technology that powers the future of clean, intelligent, and resilient electricity networks. If you are looking to join a fast paced, high growth company that is in the business of making a real impact on a global scale, we would like to hear from you! What is the Role? We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer & Technical Lead to bridge our engineering vision and software execution as we scale. This is a hands-on role where you'll be writing and reviewing code alongside architecting the platform and not stepping into a purely managerial position. You'll work closely with the co-founders to architect a secure, flexible platform, mentor junior developers, and own end-to-end client delivery. This is a highly collaborative role for a builder who wants to stay close to the code while establishing engineering culture, designing secure systems from scratch, and delivering impactful technology to enterprise clean-energy clients. This role reports directly to the CEO and CTO and will play a central role in shaping the technical direction of the company. What You’ll Do? Architecture & Deployment Architect a platform capable of deploying flexibly across cloud environments (AWS/Azure) and on-premise client infrastructure, depending on individual utility requirements Build out deployment strategies using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) to support both cloud and on-premise environments Establish engineering standards: code review processes, automated CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and scalable Git workflows. Security & Data Protection Enforce secure coding practices (OWASP Top 10) and robust identity and access management (IAM/OAuth) to safeguard client systems Architect data protection mechanisms for client data at rest and in transit Help ensure infrastructure and data workflows align with enterprise security expectations (e.g., SOC 2 principles) and Canadian data privacy requirements (PIPEDA) Respond to and manage client security questionnaires and incident response Team Mentorship & Delivery Mentor and guide junior developers through code reviews and technical problem-solving Translate engineering concepts and business logic into clear, actionable technical sprints Lead end-to-end client-facing delivery: milestone tracking, technical liaison during enterprise onboarding, and security reviews What Do You Bring? Technical 5 to 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong architecture and full-stack development expertise Hands-on experience deploying software to both cloud environments (Azure preferred) and on-premise infrastructure Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure automation Solid grounding in application security fundamentals (OWASP, IAM/OAuth, encryption at rest and in transit) Experience working with time-series data Competence in Python and Next.js will be an asset Leadership & Delivery Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment is strongly preferred Demonstrated experience owning client-facing technical delivery Experience mentoring or leading junior developers Ability to work independently and make sound architectural decisions with minimal oversight Exceptional ability to translate technical decisions for both internal stakeholders (electrical engineers) and external enterprise clients A technologist at heart who has grown into architecture and delivery ownership, and who still wants to be hands-on in the codebase day to day. This role is not for someone who has moved away from active coding into pure management Nice-to-Have Experience integrating with utility systems such as SCADA, GIS, MDMS, ADMS, DMS, or DERMS Previous experience preparing a platform or startup for a SOC 2 audit Experience in the energy sector Why join us? A senior leadership role with direct influence over technical direction and company growth Competitive base salary plus a health, dental, and vision benefits package from day one Opportunities for equity participation as the company scales The opportunity to shape engineering practices and team culture from the ground up Exposure to mission-critical software supporting the energy transition, with a growing product portfolio beyond the current platform Other Details: Location: Remote-first, but the candidate should be based in the Greater Toronto Area. The team meets in person monthly in downtown Toronto and the position requires periodic travel to client sites across Southern Ontario. Employment Type: Full-time, permanent Compensation: $90,000–$120,000 CAD base salary, commensurate with experience, plus a benefits package (health, dental, vision). Opportunities for equity participation as the company scales. We strongly believe that Diversity makes us better and stronger, and are therefore an equal opportunity employer, encouraging all applicants to apply. Authorization to work in Canada is required for this position.
