Job summary
Harbinger has partnered with a large Transportation/Waste company. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the division, including operations, safety, financial performance, customer satisfaction, fleet management, regulatory compliance, and business development. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with extensive transportation and logistics experience, exceptional operational expertise, and a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will provide leadership to operations, dispatch, maintenance, safety, and administrative teams while driving profitability and ensuring exceptional service delivery. This role is onsite in the Hamilton area. Key Responsibilities: Operations Management Lead the day-to-day operations of the liquid tank transportation division. Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer service. Monitor fleet utilization, route optimization, and equipment availability. Ensure on-time deliveries while maintaining the highest service standards. Oversee dispatch, scheduling, maintenance, and driver management. Financial Management Manage the division's operating budget and financial performance. Analyze key financial metrics including revenue, margins, operating costs, and profitability. Develop cost-control initiatives while maintaining service quality. Prepare forecasts, budgets, and operational reports for executive leadership. Identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve operational efficiency. Leadership & Team Development Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to managers and supervisors. Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Recruit, develop, and retain top talent. Conduct performance reviews and establish measurable performance objectives. Safety & Compliance Promote a strong safety-first culture throughout the organization. Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations, including: TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) DOT and FMCSA regulations (where applicable) Hours of Service requirements Environmental regulations Occupational Health & Safety legislation Monitor driver compliance, audits, training, and incident investigations. Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to safety performance. Customer Relations Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers. Ensure customer expectations are consistently exceeded. Resolve operational issues quickly and professionally. Participate in contract negotiations and customer review meetings. Fleet Management Oversee fleet maintenance strategies. Manage equipment replacement planning. Monitor equipment utilization and lifecycle costs. Ensure preventive maintenance programs are followed. Business Development Identify opportunities for growth within existing accounts. Support sales initiatives and strategic business development. Evaluate new markets and service offerings. Develop long-term growth strategies for the division. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field (preferred, but not required). 7+ years of progressive transportation and logistics leadership experience. Previous management experience within a liquid bulk or tank transportation environment is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of fleet operations, dispatch, maintenance, and transportation regulations. Proven experience creating/managing P&L responsibilities and operational budgets. Knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), fleet software, and Microsoft Office. Experience leading large operational teams across multiple sites.
