*Please note that this role will start as a 3 month contract with potential to go permanent" We are initiating a search for an Accounting Manager to join a commercial refrigeration and HVAC business in Scarborough, Ontario. This role ensures accurate financial statements, strong internal controls, job costing discipline, and timely reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. The Accounting Manager will work closely with operations, service managers, and ownership. Financial Management & Reporting: Ensure that all bank transactions are recorded and reconciled on a daily basis Ensure that all completed jobs are invoiced upon completion. Ensure that the HST return gets calculated, filed and paid by the end of the following month. Ensure that Accounts Receivable are monitored regularly and be responsible for the timely collection of AR Ensure that all supplier invoices are properly recorded to an expense or a work order and that suppliers are paid on time. Ensure that any parts are either charged directly to a work order or charged to Inventory. Make sure that any parts taken from inventory are charged to the correct work order Ensure that the weekly payroll is properly recorded in the accounts and that the labour cost is charged to work orders at the correct absorption rate. Ensure that the Union payments are calculated and paid by the 15th of the following month. Prepare a monthly list of any Prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities that agree with the GL. Prepare a monthly list of all jobs/work orders that are not completed by month end with all the proper cost recorded. Ensure that all revenues are classified properly as Service Project or Maintenance and associated costs are reflected in same categories in Cost of Sales. Ensure that the technician utilization report is prepared every Monday for the prior week. Own and execute a 5-business-day monthly close, ensuring accuracy and consistency Oversee profitability reporting by service line (service, maintenance, construction) Ensure accurate labor costing, technician productivity reporting, and overhead allocation Establish and enforce internal financial policies and controls. Own sales tax compliance and reporting including preparing and filing sales tax returns on time Liaise with auditors for audits and compliance matters. Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring efficiency and professional development. Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Master’s degree is a plus QuickBooks Online required 6+ years of experience in financial management, accounting, or auditing roles Proficiency in the use of MS Office, ERP systems and financial software (eg. Sage, and Coins). Experience in a service-based HVAC or construction industry preferred Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills. Experience with a unionized workforce would be a benefit High attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work under pressure.
