Job details

Your New Company Our client is a highly regarded plaintiff-side personal injury boutique with a long-standing reputation for advocating on behalf of seriously and catastrophically injured individuals across Ontario. With decades of experience dedicated exclusively to personal injury litigation, the firm is known for its collaborative culture, sophisticated files, and commitment to delivering exceptional client service. The team is continuing to grow and is seeking an experienced Senior Law Clerk to join its Toronto office. This is an opportunity to work closely with a respected group of lawyers on complex, high-value personal injury matters while enjoying a supportive, team-oriented environment where law clerks are trusted with significant responsibility and autonomy. The firm has built a culture centred on collaboration, accessibility, and mutual support. Team members describe the environment as one where everyone genuinely works together, questions are encouraged, and successes are shared. Your New Role Reporting to one of the firm's senior legal teams, you will manage a full personal injury practice with substantial ownership over your files. The firm operates a highly collaborative model where lawyers and clerks work closely together, but clerks are empowered to independently move files forward and act as key contributors throughout the litigation process. You will be exposed to a broad range of plaintiff-side personal injury matters, including catastrophic injury claims, tort litigation, and accident benefits disputes. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of files, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can confidently prioritize competing demands while maintaining exceptional client service standards. Key Responsibilities Manage plaintiff personal injury files from inception through resolution Draft, prepare, and review litigation documents, correspondence, pleadings, mediation briefs, affidavits, and other court materials Coordinate productions, medical records, expert reports, and documentary evidence Prepare files for discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, arbitrations, and trials Maintain regular communication with clients, experts, insurers, and opposing counsel Review and summarize medical documentation and accident-related records Support lawyers with case strategy, file progression, and issue identification Monitor deadlines and ensure timely advancement of all assigned matters Utilize legal technology and practice management systems to efficiently manage files What You'll Need to Succeed Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal education Approximately 5+ years of plaintiff-side personal injury law clerk experience Strong experience handling tort litigation Experience with Accident Benefits (AB) matters is considered a significant asset, though not a strict requirement Proven ability to manage a busy practice and effectively prioritize multiple urgent requests Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment Experience with FileVine, Primafact, or similar legal technology platforms is an asset What You'll Receive in Return Law clerks are highly valued members of the legal team and are entrusted with meaningful responsibility on sophisticated files. Unlike many firms, there are: No billable hour requirements No docketing expectations Exposure to complex and catastrophic injury matters Significant interaction with lawyers and involvement in file strategy A technology-forward environment that embraces AI and modern legal tools Competitive base salary commensurate with experience (up to approximately $120,000+ for highly experienced candidates) Performance-based bonus program paid twice annually (target total bonus opportunity of approximately 15% of base salary) Comprehensive health spending account of $3,000 annually (prorated in year one) Four weeks' vacation Additional work-from-home flexibility days throughout the year Office closure between Christmas and New Year's Hybrid work model: Initial onboarding period completed fully in-office Thereafter, three days in-office and two days remote, with potential for additional flexibility based on team requirements
