Senior Accountant - Downtown Toronto (Hybrid 3 days in office) - Architecture Firm Compensation: $90,000-$120,000 + bonus Areas of responsibility: General Accounting (firm level): Support quarter-end accounting activities, including updating lead sheets, preparing and posting journal entries, and performing account analysis and reconciliations Maintain the day-to-day accounting for multiple entities across Canada and the United States Maintain, review, and enhance quarter-end and year-end lead sheets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency Support year-end financial reporting processes Provide oversight of firm-wide accounting and project accounting processes, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and automate or streamline workflows Respond to ad hoc financial, accounting, and reporting requests from studio teams and firm principals Project Accounting: Prepare and analyze monthly project accounting reports, including project profitability, work-in-progress (WIP), write-offs. Provide insights and recommendations to support monthly financial reviews with the CFO Monitor project budgets, forecasts, utilization, and profitability, proactively identifying risks, variances, and performance issues and escalating concerns to Project Managers and Principals Prepare and distribute monthly project-specific financial reports and dashboards for Principals, highlighting project performance, key trends, and areas requiring attention Serve as the primary escalation point for accounts receivable issues and overdue client payments Support the CFO in enhancing business processes and maximizing the effective use of Deltek Vantagepoint across the studio. This will involve: Act as the primary owner of Deltek Vantagepoint, proactively building advanced knowledge of the system and driving continuous improvement in its use across the organization Designing solutions through collaboration with other stakeholders, testing, and trial and error Planning rollout of new processes and modules to the studio Brainstorming solutions to problems Communicating these changes, and providing support to the studio post-rollout Other: Provide backup support to the finance team during periods of absence, vacation, or other resource constraints, including: Preparing, filing, and remitting sales tax returns. Coordinating insurance renewals and maintaining insurance certificates. Supporting client billing and invoicing activities. SKILLS Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision (required) Experience in project accounting within the A/E industry Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial analysis, reporting, and data manipulation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with non-financial stakeholders. Open-minded attitude and willingness to learn Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Good analytical skills *AI may be used in the screening of this process, this role is a newly created opportunity*
