HDR is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer to join the growing Site-Civil team with Building Engineering Services (BES) group in Canada. Senior Site Civil Engineer serves as a key technical leader on our site development engineering team. This is a hands-on technical role where you will have the opportunity to lead the design on a wide variety of complex site development projects, from initial site evaluation through development of construction documents, permitting, and construction. You will serve as a technical expert, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality site civil projects for our clients. In the role of Senior Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to: - Lead initial site evaluation, including the research of zoning and land development permitting requirements for local and state agencies. - Lead the technical design and plan production for site development projects, including site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utilities. - Perform site civil engineering calculations and generate associated calculation reports. - Prepare and review technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates. - Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures - Lead land development permitting processes with AHJ’s. - Serve as a technical expert, exercising judgment in the evaluation and application of advanced engineering techniques to solve complex challenges. - Delegate tasks to and mentor junior engineering staff and technicians while working together on project teams. - Coordinate directly with clients, permitting authorities, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure technical excellence and project success. - Serve as a project manager as needed, although project management is not the sole focus of this position. - Perform other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications - Experience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project workstreams including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modelling - Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs (examples: technical correspondence and code interpretations) against core engineering fundamentals and regulations - Project experience with land entitlement and development processes locally and in other surrounding areas. - Experience with site development design and construction plan development. - Proficiency with the following software: Civil3D, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam Revu and other site civil engineering software (e.g. HydroCAD, Autodesk Hydraflow Extensions, etc.) as required. - Strong skills with Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel), AI-enhanced research and design process support
